I have to agree, I always worried about the torture! Being taken from my brothers and made to stand on one leg with no water in the hot sun while being eaten by misquitos and/or other insects...'til I renounced Jehovah always bothered me....I used to practice. Also the prospect of beatings and rapes led to many sleepless nights. The demons didn't bother me a great deal because I figured I could call on Jehovah's name and Jesus' name and they'd go away. I never could figure out why the witnesses couldn't do that when being tortured, raped or killed!

What amazes me now as I think back....I was always being chastized by my mother for reading mysteries and adventure books, but was encouraged to read about torture, rape and murder in the society's publications....go figure!

    • Satan & his Demon's will attack you or take control of your mind if you read the stars, enter a church, buy second hand

jewellery or furniture that may be demonised, e.t.c.

    This was it for me.

Now I enjoy getting up early Saturday mornings to hit the Garage sales.

Well, just tonight during the book group in my house, my father said that in order to show that we are "determined in our hearts" not to take blood, (just like Daniel and his companions were "firmly resolved" not to defile themselves with the "delicacies of the King"), that we should keep our "blood card" either on a short chain round our necks or in a shirt pocket close to our chest, and NOT in a handbag, purse or wallet. The reasoning was that if we get caught in the next terrorist bombings on London, our arms could get blown off and the card in our handbag could fly off in all sorts of directions with our arms. We need to keep the "blood card" close to us at all times because we wouldn't want the doctors forcing a blood transfusion on us just because the card in our trouser pocket flew away when our legs got blown off.

That could have been pretty scary for the 4 kids we have in our book group.

Yes it's true, whilst we were terrified about being persecuted in the future, in reality our minds were already been persecuted and messed with.

Boy do they have a lot to answer for !!!!!

"trusting in jehovah" that is, isn't it?

Maybe that's the real 666 identifier.

Wow! That's heavy. I knew about the church building thing but not this!

Speaking from a RC perspective, I was scared of burning in hell for eternity - and purgatory where all Christians HAVE to go before they get to heaven sounded just as bad - gee they just didn't get that 'Once and for all sacrifice of Christ' concept...

Well when I rang the Kingdom hall and spoke to the elder guy, he was really creeping me out with the Armageddon thing!

Cause I have no fear of it! but he made such an emphasis on it!

Fortunately I didn't grow up in a jw family but by reading these posts I can see why many ex jws had big problems leaving the org since mind conditioning began at a tender age with all those negative images and the emotions of fear that they elicit. A very oppressive emotional environment for impressionable children.
