Sounds real to me. Why just the other day the headmaster at Oxford college told me I sounded like I had a degree from reading so many Awake! magazines.

No, really it sounds real. The emailer is specifically talking about an experience that happened to them, not something third or fourth party. Unless they're embellishing or lying -which is doubtful.

I vote for "jumping to conclusions" by zealot JWs. Let's face it, we are all "searching for truth". The investigation of reality is an ongoing process... Okay I know! JWs us the term "truth" differently...

The JWs I knew/know are notorious for saying something personally happened to them when it was just an urban legend. For example, how many smurf stories have I heard, all exactly the same except for the person it happened to? Or how many times have I heard the story of a man with a gun planning to shoot a lone sista in FS but refrained because of the "man" standing next to her, only to find out it was an angel standing there? A zillion times.

The story in the OP isn't really interesting enough or sensational enough to make me suspect someone made it up though.

she had many many questions...and we had to explain we can only tackle one at a time for a clear understanding (haha)
    Well, that says it all.

This is an experience. This woman will learn the wonderful truth that God is not the cause of all the wickedness in the earth today. She will receive the heartwarming hope for a future in which God will slaughter six billion worldlings.

Very true, u/d. That was me...I wanted magic that would fix everything that was wrong with people and the world (as well as enable me and mine to live forever). So much easier to lay it all on Jehovah Santa God and not have to worry about it any more. All us true-believers had to do to was perform our little magic JW rituals daily (which I didn't realize would become such a burden), and Jah would take care of the rest. I accepted a lie with very little actual research or study because I wanted it to be real.

    Me too...

u/d (of the then the bottom fell out class)

p.s.- Who'da thought having a "good" heart would be so bad...

I think the underlying agenda of this post was promotion of the new book! I mean really they even put in suspense(i wont tell you the name in case you havent been to the dc yet). The thing is this email came from my wifes friend. It was addressed to everyone, not just my wife. The jw knows my wife already went to the assembly, and she even gave us the new book. I think this is an experience sent around to dubs to make it seem like the new book is truly food at the proper time. Anyone else feel this way? Also my wife said that when out in service, people are not supposed to be alone as was the brother in the first part. Is this true?

She will receive the heartwarming hope for a future in which God will slaughter six billion worldlings.

Of which she won't be one of them....as long as she's loyal.....obedient.....to the slave and turning in at least the monthly average in time every month.

One slip up and a lack of proper repentence and she's toast.

I agree it sounds to be real........but like I read in another post, if you fling sh*t enough times it's bound to hit something... So if you go to enough doors you are bound to come across a depressed person!!!

I vote for genuine, hanging off Blondie's perceptive shirttails. Blondie says the proof is in what happens next, and I agree. Can the JW's deliver on their promise?

OK, let's take up defd's challenge. What would we have done differently?

First of all, I wouldn't be going door to door looking for receptive strangers, so this person would most likely be my literal neighbour. I would have some qestions of my own.

    • What precipitated her anger towards God?
    • Has she experienced a recent trauma?
    • Does she have family and friends she can talk to about it?
    • What would it take for her hope to begin to be restored?
    • What is her biggest need at the moment?

For needs bigger than any person can handle, I'd offer to pray about it. No instant-pudding answers from me. Are there little examples of love and care that are within my power to do? For instance, this week my granddaughter and I baked some rhubarb crumble (the neighbour had been pining away for her grandmother's recipe), painted a card and an envelope, and delivered it next door. My neighbour laughed, "You evil person you!" and gratefully accepted the gift (she really did call me evil). That night she delivered a pot of chili at our door.

Did we cure world hunger? No.

Did we add, incrementally, joy to our bit of world? I hope so.
