Most of the things that inspire and aid in recruiting radical muslims are to do with unwanted regimes foistered on them from the west who have terrible human rights records and don't allow proper political process.

Egypt, Iraq, Iran ... the US has imposed, or tried to meddle with, the running of those countries. Who set up and supported Saddam for all those years? Is your memory that bad or your comprehension of world events so badly filtered by Fox news?

In other places the US supports regimes that commit torture and turn a blind eye to it becasue they want an air base or the country has oil.

The legitimate complaints and anger are then used and diverted by some into blind hatred and action.

The messages in the Koran are no worse than the messages in the bible though and I don't see that there are more muslims killing people that christians killing people ... they just always get labelled "muslim ..." or "islamic ..." by our media and governments. The IRA were never called "catholic ..." and when the CIA assassinate people they are never called "christian ..." are they?

IMO your words give away your bias and the actions your country supports is one of the reasons for the growth of the particular type of islam in the same way that if Americans were abused and put-down by a foreign power there would be plenty of "christian" people doing unsavoury things.

Sorry, Bendrr, but your bigotry just doesn't fly here!

But I know that YOU feel safe, cause you are always 'packing some heat', ,, so what's your beef? Didn't meet up with any punks at the 7/11 lately to take out your aggression on?

Talesin, Simon was kind enough to allow this thread to continue after it was temporarily removed to the admin section. If you have issues with me beyond the subject at hand, you know where to find me if you want to discuss them further, otherwise I don't have much of anything to say to you on this thread. Good-bye. Now back to the thread.

Simon, at one time or another regimes such as that of Saddam Hussein received aid from the U.S. As I recall, back when Iraq got aid from us was when they were at war with the newly taken-over Islamic Republic of Iran. The Mujahideen in Afghanistan also received aid in their fight against the Soviets.

It wasn't so much support of them at the time as it was the battle against the Soviet Union. At the time, Iraq and the resistance in Afghanistan didn't have thousands of nukes pointed at us. We, and you, ultimately defeated the Soviet Union and I'll concede that some of what we're seeing now may be fallout from the Cold War.

What we're seeing now in Iraq is not so much a war against the West as it is a war against a powerful free democratic nation in the Middle East. One that isn't a theocracy, one that isn't a kingdom, one that isn't controlled by the mullahs and ayatollahs. As I've said before, the terrorists didn't give a damn about Iraq before now.

I'm just trying to get you to understand that I won't view Islam as some lovey-dovey "care bears" religion when bombs kill Brits in subways and planes hit skyscrapers in New York. I fully realize that there are Muslims who abhor the actions of radical Islamofacists as much as we do. Just as most Catholics detest what has been done in Northern Ireland and most Christians here support the execution of Tim McVeigh and the one that Eric Rudolph will hopefully soon face.

I'm also trying to put it in perspective for you. Tim McVeigh and Eric Robert Rudolph don't have millions of followers primed and ready to continue their murderous tactics. Osama Bin Laden does. Radical militant Christian groups make me sick, but they don't have the funding and support that Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, and the other "Sh*theads for Allah" have. That doesn't make me sick, it scares the hell out of me because we're still afraid of offending people when we talk about border control and mass-transit passenger screening.

If you want to write it off as "bigotry", that's up to you. I've been called worse by better. But every day all of us make judgements based on what we know and what we believe.

    Mike.

Outside of simply bashing them and calling them "shiteheads for allah" do you have any course of action you suggest we take to confront Islamic fundamentalism?

religious thought (not spiritual thought) is a plague on mankind.

christians slaughter pagan indians, africans, aztecs, incas, pacific islanders, etc.

    muslims slaughter muslims, hindus, christians

    hindus slaughter muslims

    tribalists slaughter tribalists

The fact that Bin Laden and supporters still call US-UK Crusaders worries me - it means that even after 900 years things do not get forgotten and forgiven

Bush used terms such as "Crusade". One of the reasons I think he's either an idiot or himself part of a sick evil ideology.

EF, you know my stance, offensive as it may be to you, which is to scare the Jihad out of them by showing them a visible and present power greater than Allah.

Actually I'd be more interested in knowing how you'd pacify the "Sh**heads for Allah". Same question goes to Simon. I'm not asking it in sarcasm, this is turning into an interesting discussion so since y'all know what I've said on the matter, I'd like to discuss your side of the issue.

Islam reminds me off the KKK. Ive known some people in the KKK they usually have a tattoo of 3 dots in a triangle shape real small on one of their hands. their beliefs they think are also supported in the bible and they think that any crimes against others are not wrong in gods eyes

alot of the KKK are simple minded people not wanting to cause harm bit instead are just wanting some of the same rights that blacks have like white month or miss white USA pageant or a white history month or even a channel called WTV instead of BMT.

some of the KKK dont even care, their in it because their parents were in it.either way not all KKK members are bad and not all of them hate but everyone hates the KKK and noone gets ragged on if bad things are said about them they just call them ignorant people and think that the KKK should be done with.

when you hear the letters KKK you think about all the people they have killed and you picture people hanging in trees when i hear Islam i think about exploding people and bombs going off. Islam is like the KKK in my book and I'm not prejudice against anyone but i kind of agree with Bendrr i think on this one

I know you have stated before that we find the various suicide bomber's family and then exterminate their next of kin. Yes, I find the wanton murder of innocent people offensive Bendrr. It's as silly as the rest of mankind being held accountable for the so called sins of "Adam and Eve".

As I've mentioned in my previous posts radicalism is a leisure time pursuit. Look at the IRA. One of the major reasons for the tranquility in Ireland is that Ireland has been an economic powerhouse the past 10 years. Once upon a time rampant unemployment left youth with nothing else to do but get into trouble. Whereby those same "angry youths" now are too busy working making a difference in their lives to worry about hate.

Right now in the middle east people have no outlet for their frustration. Unemployment is rampant. They can not speak out against their respective governments to demand a VOICE in what goes on. When people have the tools in front of them to change their life and to lead fulfilling, successful lives they usually grab a hold of that. When they feel they have nothing to lose they make desperate, frustrated decisions. The west has been partially guilty in looking the other way at the human rights abuses of these regimes as long as the oil flows. To the average Saudi youth... this looks hypocritical don't you think? The unemployment rate for Saudi youth stands at around 32 percent. In 2004, one in every two Saudis was less than 15 years old, and an estimated 60 percent of the population is under the age of 21. The problem is only going to get worse not better.

The Saudi and other middle eastern countries also allowed radical clerics to thrive as long as they didn't threaten the government. These clerics knowing full well they couldn't rant against the emir, or king turned their hate filled rage towards the west and all it stood for. It's time those governments reign in the radicals. We also need to encourage the progressive and liberal wings of the Muslim faith. Women are the key here too. In the moderate Muslim countries the women are treated similarly to the way we treat women here in the west. Before the overthrow of the Shah women were lawyers, doctors, and teachers in Iran.

There will always be radical, insane fundamentalists in Islam...just like Eric Rudolph, Timothy McVeigh, and Terry Nichols represent a radical and insane fraction of Christianity. We need to make sure the progressive wing of Islam speaks for the Muslim faith. Not the radical fundamentalists. Just as it's an ever constant vigil to make sure people like James Dobson doesn't speak for the average Christian. By having a thriving and moderate Islam it negates the jihad mentality of the Muslim fundies.

But to really exert pressure on these regimes we cannot be willing partners in their human rights abuses by turning a blind eye while they send us oil. A Congress that passes an energy bill that has something more substantial than extending Daylight Saving's time by 4 weeks would be a start. It's pretty tough to carry a big stick when you are merely a drug addict going to his dealer like we do with oil.

Being an honest broker in the peace agreement between Israel and Palestine is also a must.

Do I have all the answers? No. But blowing up 1.5 billion Muslims really isn't an option. The Iraqmire isn't either. How many terrorists are being trained right now in Falluja? We still haven't secured Afghanistan. We simply installed a new government and called it success. That same government's own control doesn't exceed past the city limits of Kabul. So call me sceptical of this Administration yes.

niceone evilforce. killing their relatives would only make more terrorist. i think we should figure out a way to get them all hooked on the opium they keep sending over and maybe even send them over a bunch of crack and let them fight themselves for a while or even send a couple nuclear weed bombs that way, its hard to fight with your eyes all squinted up
