I think at this point we should all agree to disagree.

Yes Freedom I have said that as well.

Rem I have never seen anything floating, but I will say people, phones etc....

    >>>> high probability that I've already seen what anyone has to offer

    >> Sounds like what someone knocking on doors offering magazines would say if the homeowner asked them to read some guideposts magazines.

Now you're just being ridiculous. Does the fact that I'm well read on the subject and own a whole library of books on it intimidate you? Why would you expect me to read something I've already read? I haven't turned anything down yet have I?

Yes this is a pet hobby of mine. Of course I've read tons of stuff on both sides. How about you?

    Legolas,

At this point all I can say is I don't have enough information to go on. Could be mind tricks, could be ghosts... who knows?

The thing about positing ghosts, though, is that there is no *Positive* theory of ghosts. Even Paranormal investigators will admit to this. There is only a *negative* theory. That is, you can never really prove a phenomenon was caused by ghosts. All you can do is exhaustively disprove every other potential cause until ghosts are the only explanation. Unfortunately this is almost impossible in practice. This is why, in my mind and most scientists minds, the ghost explanation is by far one of the least likely (followed closely by space aliens). :)

    Legolas,

Also, I want to go one step further. Above I said it could be ghosts, but it is difficult to prove. Someone else can just as easily come into the conversation and posit space aliens or fairies, elves, invisible pink unicorns, etc... Get the picture? If you have no way of proving or disproving your position then you're on equal ground with any other crackpot theory. This means you cannot say with any conviction other than belief that your theory is the correct one.

How would you argue that ghosts or paranormal is more likely than advanced space alien creatures?

It's a very difficult position to defend.

Rem-- That's a good question . I don't think science has ever proven evolution as fact but only theory . In order to say aliens exist without believing in spirits would be saying that evolution is a fact . God is a spirit . Whether or not there are other planets with intelligent life on them cannot even be proven and there is no physical evidence to prove they traveled very long distances or light years to visit our planet only to probe some peoples ass . I believe in being a skeptic but when confronted with first hand accounts can no longer take that stand . I'm the first one to say if I think some one is full of bologny .

Anothery annoying thing about believers: They *always* insist that skeptics are calling them liars. I think this may have something to do with the reading comprehension skills of the believer, or they are just so blinded by their belief that they really can't process information that goes counter to their intuition.

Ok, help me out here. You are saying that I should research what I saw, in order to find out what I really saw. Today, I saw a BMW. It looked like a BMW, had BMW emblems on it, sounded like a BMW, had the general shape of a BMW. A friend of mine saw it too, and he says it was a BMW too. But we should research this more? Because maybe it really wasn't a BMW. After all, what proof is there? Just because we thought we saw a BMW doesn't make it so, now does it? Maybe our eyes were playing tricks on us, after all, we have heard stories about BMW's before. Maybe we were pre-disposed to thinking it was a BMW because we have heard of them before. Plus, you didn't see the BMW, so maybe it didn't exist. Come on rem, does that really make sense?

Happened to see a show on TLC tonight entited "A Haunting in Georgia"
A young girl saw apparitions in the families new house and the situation was examined, and one man called in looked at it from what I would call a scientific viewpoint. I found it interesting that he discovered it only affected the girl, and eventually her younger sister and the mother, not the father. In digging deeper, he also discovered that the mother's parents had been affected by sightings like this in the past too. It seemed to be something genetic. That as well as a magnetic field eminating from a nearby fault line. I have to add that this show had it's share of music and imagery that sent chills up my back. Typical TV production. I just have to add that I can see a BMW too, I just have to go to the dealer.

    Freedom,

If you were really talking about a BMW, then yes you could take that at face value *because it is not an extraordinary claim*.

If I tell you I saw a purple unicorn in my backyard yesterday would you just believe me without some type of good evidence? If you did, many would find you extremely creulous and gullible. The thing is that many people don't take this powerful concept to heart when it goes against their closeley held beleifs.

Saying you saw ghosts is an extraordinary claim. Surely you saw something, but you would have to meticulously eliminate every single natural explanation before you could realistically say it was a ghost. This would probably be impossible in your case because there is not enough information other than what your senses told you. Beyond that, I could just as easily tell you that your interpretation of the belief is wrong - it was not a ghost but smurfs. What makes your explanation any better than mine?

The book is not going to tell you what you saw. The book is going to show you how to think critically, something we were never taught in the Society. It is going to show you what the latest scientific thinking is on the subject, and I assure you it is fascinating.

However, not desiring to incite flames against myself, I will simply direct you to do a google image search on the following: arguing on the internet, special olymics. Note that you should ignore any pornographic images in the results.
