Halloween - Are you celebrating?

My absolute favorite holiday! Not created by cultists, cultists are JWs! Created by Pagans to celebrate the spirits of their departed ancesters. They/we believe that those spirits are closer on this night, so in a way its like a big wake party, or the pagan equivalent to Memorial day if you will. The horror part of it was added later by silly men. I don't like the horror part myself either.

Add to that the pure joy of putting on a costume, decorating the house and yard, and handing out candy to the little hobgoblins, and its a pure joy! And, I make a damn fine looking witch, if I say so myself! lolol

"Are you a good witch or a bad witch?"

I always loved Halloween. Even as a kid, when I wasn't allowed to celebrate it. The idea of dressing up in a costume, and eating candy. What's not to like?

Same here. As a kid, I would peek out the window and look at all my friends dressed up. I loved the whole "spooky"-ness about it. My kids love it, even my "wanna be a JW like her mom" daughter. There's always that one house in the neighborhood that goes completely nuts with Halloween decorations that we always love passing by. This past year, the home owner hanged himself from a noose in front of his house. Maybe that was over the top but dam, it scared those kids. lol!

    My kids fav. holidays....

    1. Halloween (stay out very late and cause trouble w/o getting in trouble)

    2. Fourth of July (stay out very late and get to blow things up w/o getting in trouble)

    3. X-mas (presents...duh)

Since exiting the dubs, Hallowe'en has become "my" holiday. My cousin's favourite is Thanksgiving, and my brother's is Christmas, except he lives out of town and last year I went to a friend's place for Christmas dinner.

I don't have children but love Hallowe'en and the dressing up. I host a "scary movie" night on the Saturday closest to Hallowe'en. Well, last year's was mostly a "non-scary movie" night, we saw Rosemary's Baby and the original Exorcist.

I fill a plastic/latex glove with water and (carefully) freeze it. Then I pour red food colouring over it and stand the hand up in the punch bowl. As it melts the plastic glove looks like the skin shedding off the hand.

I love it! I use to take my own bag, and our neighbors would put beer in it instead of candy! This is me and my kids a few years ago! hallo19dt.jpg

I love halloween, whats not to like about getting to dress up and pretend your someone else. I remember years ago(halloween) i was out in service with my mom and another sister and we stopped to make a call at the jail. I had to wait in the car while they went in. i say a lawyer get out of his car and I made a joke and asked if he was dressed as a lawyer for halloween he smiled and said yes, then he asked what i was and i said i was dressed as a JW....so i could be scarier then anyone else......he agreed...I will never forget that. No that i have my pre-pregnant figure back my hubby and I are going to have a halloween party...i'm thinking...little red riding hood and the big bad wolf...lol something reall fun.

We just had my neice and nephew camping for a week, and every year the campground has halloween. Before hand I had asked my bro and sis in law if it was ok for them to participate, and they said it was. We went out and bought a CD of scary sounds, chains clanking, floors creaking, moans, screams etc. I had a devil mask and red cape, my hubby had a mask and dressed up and we made a coffin out of cardboard and duct tape that he hid in. When the kids came up I would open the coffin and he'd scare them then give them the candy!

It was sooooo much fun. I'd love to do something similar at home this year.

The question I ask myself when it comes to these things is, "If I was never a JW, would I do it?" The answer is always "Yes. Without question".

Absolutely! Before studying w/jw's, Halloween was/is my favorite holiday. I always had such a great time growing up with it. This year will be the first year taking my kids out. I'd love to get to a party this year, too.
