When I think of societies, I think of the Audobon Society. I think they are qualified to write articles on the quetzal, or the marabou. There was once an 80's band called the Information Society. I know in Mass here we have the MSPCA(Mass society for the prevention of cruelty to animals).

Behold! These tracts are resplendent!!! Observe them in their natural habitat shoved in the doorframe of some sheep of good will, in between the knobshaft and the wood paneling. They will not rest until they are nestled comfortably in the trash can, between a political flyer and the sales insert of the Sunday paper.
I always thought that the natural habitat of tracts and watchtowers was on the bottom of my cockatoo's cage. She makes great piles, and the watchtowers are wonderfully absorbant! Now that is truly resplendent!!!!!! W

The New World™ is a political concept of a theocratic government where planet earth is ruled by god from heaven by way of "agents" on earth. See "Kissing Hank's Ass" at http://www.jhuger.com/kisshank.php to understand how this works.
The New World™ god is a mass murderer and is fresh from just murdering 6,000,000,000 +/- people. The New World™ people are his accomplices and they are happy to have helped create a safe and loving environment to live. -

The Witness people share a common culture based on Apocalyptic anxiety, high control of members, embracement of underachievement and poverty, reverence for the publishing corporations, and based on political religious intolerance and elitism.
Such eloquence...

This issue goes to the crux of the matter you have a business the WTBTS trying to pass itself off as a religion hence the awkwardness it manifests on many issues eg the way it should be run based on religious concepts it should be the annointed, based on legal ownership it should be the GB and the shareholders.

Exactly Greendawn, The Watch Tower Society claims to be a religion operating as a business. I see a business operating (on one level) as a religion. I see the business operating on at least two more levels as purely a business. It looks to me like the religion division, called Jehovah's Witnesses, is just a perihelial part of the business.
Now, instead of the Witnesses being the preachers, they have become the preached to. Remember when the Witness people were a part OF the organization? Now they are apart from. They have gone from being the elect to the chastised.
The literature used to be written FOR the Witness people. Now it's written TO the Witness people. The Awake! has become a publication written to the Witness teens. They even added cartoons. All brought to you by the FDS. -

Garybuss,
That "Kissing Hank's Ass" was absolutely priceless. What an excellent metaphor for the WTBTS. ROTFLMAO
I put that one in my "Favorites" file, and emailed it to my daughter (also an X-JW).

You know, speaking of very long names for a "Society", one of the longest I ever heard of was:
"The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America" (SFTPAEOBSQSIA for short) I used to work in a Bank as a teller, and one day someone came in and opened up an account under this name. It was hard to conduct an interview without laughing in his face while opening up this account.
