I hate it when a movie gets talked up so much that it's invariably a letdown. I wouldn't call Napoleon Dynamite hilarious, but I thought it was highly amusing, in a quirky, off-beat kind of way. If I'd heard a bunch of people telling me that it was great, hilarious, etc. and I went in expecting an uproarious comedy, I'd probably have been disappointed.

    apparently not everybody gets it...

Is there really anything to "get"? Where were the punchlines?

It seemed to me that the whole movie was about, "Look at these ugly geeks and laugh at how strange they act."

If that's the joke then I guess I don't get it, because it just seemed weird and pointless to me. I'll have to give it another go to see what I missed (maybe).

Behold the power of JWD, I watched the thing over the weekend because I just had to see it after this buzz. I can definitely see why there is such a love or hate thing going on with this flick. Reminds me of how people didn't get British humor here in the states for a long time.

I have to admit, I thought it was pretty damn funny.

These stupid ass reviewers got duped. They got TRICKED into thinking they were watching something so 'different' and 'unique', when in reality they were watching nonsensical garbage that should never have been put on ANY screen,

We loved the movie. Saw it accidently on it's second theatrical release. I have to admit it grows on you each time you see it. Thank goodness we stayed until the end of the credits and caught the surprise ending. We didn't quite get Napoleon, the character at first. He becomes more three dimensional with each viewing.

I ordered the DVD for Andy for xmas. We watch it all the time, as do our grandsons. It gets better each time. We love the music and bought the soundtrack.

Both kids can recite dialogue from the movie and do impressions of the actors. They can do whole scenes.

With ND, you either get it or you don't. OR it grows on you.

the glorious, shining moment of the whole movie was when the kids were in the schoolbus and witnessed the cattle execution.

It took a few viewings to figure out the reason for the cow execution.

They were out of steak. Grandma told him she had Lyle coming over in the morning to take care of that for them. It was Lyle who shot the cow the next morning, for steaks. Do you notice how often steaks are mentioned or showed?
