Your disapproval of the word cult may be justified. It just depends on what that means to you. In English this term often has negative connotations, but this isn't necessarily the case. Of course, willy_think was using it disparagingly.

I do agree with the term when used following Steven Hassan's model, which can be found here:

and believe the Watchtower is a harmful organization.

    Yeah I do!

There is an American brother(the only one) in the Colchester congregation U.K. who used to be in the american air force. He's still entitled to use the air base there to buy duty free discounted goods. He is always shopping there and using his air force discout card. What a hypocrite!

Why can't I have a card? I sold my soul to the Devil and I still have to pay the going rate. I thought the Devil loked after his own. Perhaps he does but I joined the wrong side. I've been had!

JWs should also work on public holidays just to show they are no part of the world. In fact they should insist on working on public holidays. To be forced not to work on a public holiday is a vilolation of their freedom of religion.

"To be forced not to work on a public holiday is a vilolation of their freedom of religion."

Very good way of putting it, Hippikon!

When I was still a dub my brother asked me this very thing, "Why do youguys take off on Labor Day when you don't believe in it?" I wish he would have said it your way, it might have made me think about it more.

As far as Christmas, I remember my hypocritical MIL having a non-Christmas turkey dinner on December 25th. I think that majorly "stumbled" me because I was sacrificing being with my family whom I loved dearly, making a stand for the "truth" and sitting there with all these witnesses who were a wanna-be-family to me on December 25th just didn't cut it! The whole time I was thinking, "Wonder what my family is doing now."

I'm soooo glad I figured it out that it's the most hypocritical religion ever!
