How about a one hit wonder? Cockrobin "When your heart is weak" I remember them in high school I also like Matrace Berg (known mostly for her songwriting but has a great voice) Boney M (group from the 70s)

That's quite a surprise, Happy Dad. Bootsie's Rubber Band is a bit obscure, for even a lot of black people, much less whites. He was a true original, and quiet as it's kept, he was the funk driving the "Godfather of Souls" rhythm section in the sixties and seventies. Our Illustrious James Brown

Well, I guess it depends on who you talk to. What's obscure about him as a musician is the fact that he played bass for James Brown! Most blacks/ whites probably don't know that!
