104 offences? This "man" doesn't deserve to be walking the streets after any amount of years, yet alone five.

I never understood why one is not willing to give a person the chance of making a new start in life. What are prisons for - a place to educate people and prepare them for life putside the walls; or as some of you seem to want to see them, a place to torture people until they die?

The cowboy mentality I see here is very difficult to understand for one coming from apart of the world where lynching never was the main neighbourhood hobby. The more times passes on, the more happy I am that I do not live within the sphere of the US mentality.

Would you let him coach your child's soccer team? Or want your kids anywhere near someone like this?

My stepcousin also spent 5 years in prison for an 'alleged' sexual assult (he denies it, but I think he was guilty) on ONE ten year old girl (he was 16 at the time). Do you think it's right that this person assulted 104 kids and only spent 5 years in jail? What if it was your kid?

it's too early for this bullsh*t...

pedophilia is a mental disorder that unfortunately can't be *fixed*. it can be treated, sometimes effectively (usually not), but as far as a "new start" goes...that's just wishful thinking. statistically, the crime of pedophilia has one of the highest rates of repeat offenders. when a 'chance at making a new start' is offered, the majority of the time it is a mistake as the creep goes on to offend again. in general, i'm not in favor of the death penalty...with the exception of pedophiles. something is broken in their mind and at this time it can't be fixed.

so, i say: sorry buddy, life sucks. bye bye.

Pedophile given new life By Tony Vermeer
    August 14, 2005

A PEDOPHILE sentenced to 424 years in jail in Perth has been dumped in New South Wales after his early release from prison.Shocked locals in the quiet north coast town of Banora Point yesterday demanded to know why they weren't told by authorities that Otto Seamus Darcy-Searle had been paroled to live among them.

Darcy-Searle, 63, was jailed in Perth in 2000 for 104 offences against members of junior soccer teams he coached. His victims were aged between 10 and 12.

Although sentenced on each count to a total of 424 years, he was allowed to serve the sentences concurrently, reducing his total jail term to 11 years.

However last month, to the disgust of arresting police, he was paroled after only five years on the condition he would leave WA and live with family members at Banora Point, near Tweed Heads.

The officer in charge of the WA Child Protection Squad, Martin Voyez, said he feared Darcy-Searle would reoffend. Advertisement:

"It's just ludicrous that someone can get that kind of sentence and be out in five years," he said.

    Darcy-Searle is listed on the

NSW Child Protection Register, but local schools and junior sporting clubs have not been informed about his presence.

Renae Simpson, director of the Wallum Community pre-school, said the system should automatically notify people with responsibilities for children when an offender such as Darcy-Searle was released into an unsuspecting community.

"It would add an extra layer of safety for people, because you never know really who is out there," she said.

Local mothers were upset to learn that the South African-born child molester now lived among them.

Kellie McLuckie, watching her son Jesse play in an under-eights soccer match in Tweed Heads said: "I definitely think he (Darcy-Searle) should be sent back.

"He should do his parole where everybody knows him."

Darcy-Searle's crimes between 1978 and 1982 against four young soccer players were described by sentencing judge Kevin Hammond as deviant behaviour of a high order.

Under the Child Protection Act, sex offenders are required to report to police on where they live, work and what motor vehicle they drive.

Police are supposed to monitor their movements but only inform schools and other community organisations if they believe the offender represents a high threat to children.

Tweed Heads police acting inspector Linda Harrison confirmed that Darcy-Searle was being watched closely.

Since arriving at Banora Point last month, Darcy-Searle has kept a low profile.

He is believed to have remarried and has two daughters from a previous marriage. But police would not confirm which family members were taking care of him.

NSW legal affairs spokesman Andrew Tink said the Government should order Darcy-Searle to be sent home.

"Mr Iemma ought to get on the phone and ring Mr Gallop and have him sent back to Western Australia," he said.

"If you are going to parole him, you should parole him in your own state, thank you."

A spokesperson for Premier Morris Iemma said the NSW Government was aware of Darcy-Searle's location but would not comment further.

BS. Prison is for punishment and to segregate dangerous members of society.

Same kind of things happen in Canada. Criminals get out and they keep committing crime. Murders get out on parole after 7 years, even though they are on a "life" sentence.

whasts the laws on posting signs or even following him everytime he leaves the house? i know violence is out but what about a mild case of stalking?

Australian laws on this matter are insane.

They won't reveal or alert if a known sex offender moves into your area in case s/he ends up getting abused or something. The law says that they have to report to their local police station when they have moved somewhere and give them their contact details, address, place of employment etc.

They ACTUALLY are protecting sex offenders!
