Don't you just hate it when you get into a discussion with someone and they just 1. refuse to hear your opinion 2. shut you down 3. will not apologise even if proven wrong.

It's as if they wear blinkers and only their opinion counts & though they want to discuss a matter, only want their opinion to be heard & without even hearing yours they already KNOW you're wrong.

I'm not refering to the witnesses here, I'm talking about "some" people in general. People at work, people you meet at bars.....or anyone that you can't reason with. I find it very frustrating trying to communicate with such small minded people "there's one way and only one way - their way". I feel as if I'm banging my head against a wall at times ( I have a collegue here that will just not admit that she is wrong - though she has been proven wrong on numerous occasions - It frustrated me so much that I said to her she was either just plain stupid or was deliberately being difficult )

    *it's been a hectic week & it's only monday!!!*

I know exactly what you mean and IMO life is too short to 'play' with these people. Why talk to them if there are people out there who will respect your opiniion, even if they dont agree with it?

Here's a recipe for work sanity. You don't have to explain yourself to idiots. Just say simply, if you are the one in charge, this is the way it is going to be. No explanations, no justifications, just lay it plain out on the table.

LouBelle, I've found that people of this nature usually have their heads so FAR up their behinds that they can only comment on what they can actually see.....which is why so many of their opinions are ass-inine.

Yeah, those types can be very frustrating to talk to. If I don't have to, I avoid it.
My father is that way. He's an only child and was told how smart and special he is from the day he was born. He's 63 now and lives two blocks away from his parents and still hears it! I can never even finish a sentence when talking to him because it's all about him showing me that he's right. It's very frustrating! Those faces he makes when I'm talking make me feel like I'm a stupid moron.

Well, thom, my father is like that too. He wonders why i almost never talk about anything serious, meaningful, or about what i am doing. He will never figure it out, even though i told him exactly why. Oh well.

Then there are the Teflon People.... those who's B.S. never sticks to them. When confronted by their errors they are quick to deflect the truth and point it back at you. My ex- #3 (never was-a-dub) and most JW's are like that.

Some people are so full of themself that trying in any way to have a civil conversation is like banging your brains on a wall. They love the sound of their own voice.

    I avoid people like that.

    Orangefatcat is not transparent.

I've more or less learned the hard way.

When I see a controversy rising in a discussion I start listening hard.

Arguments hinge on on a fundamental foundational issue. Learning to spot that issue ahead of the fight makes all the difference. Otherwise it is all skirmishes and the air fills with dust and cannon smoke.

It is very helpful to ask questions BEFORE disagreeing. Get the other person's EXACT definition of key words. More often than not it is the misunderstanding of terms that lengthens the controversy.

By defining your key terms and agreeing ahead of time on what words mean you'll head off side issues that are mere arguments about semantics.

The LITTLE MINDS at work are insecure people without the facts who still want to be heard, but, don't have anything to say. They substitute volume for content and enthusiasm for logic.

What is the fallback position of the Watchtower Society when they speak in the name of Jehovah words of prophesy that don't come true? They point out their enthusiasm which they call "eagerness" as though their emotional attitude HAD ANYTHING whatever to do with what is true and what is false!

The Watchtower is all about asserting a position of opinion misrepresented as fact. Most Little Minds do this as a matter of course.

I start personal discussions (that might become arguments) by saying as a matter of policy:

"I am willing to be wrong; are you?"

If the party you are having the controversy with is NOT WILLING to be wrong (if the facts prove untenable) then they show themselves to be intellectually dishonest.

Bring that to their attention and they'll bristle!
