I can't help you with the sounds you may have thought you heard but, have you ever tried to burn magazines with glossy pictures since? We had to burn a collection of playboy's and others when we inherited a cottage (due to young children and it would have costed too much to get them to the dump, grandma's decision) well, I can tell you those things just don't like to be burned!!! and the parts that don't burn and fly off into the air!!! wow! it's amazing what part of the pictures decide not to burn! No demons here, just glossy print doesn't burn well. We eventually had to bag some of them up anyway, too many body parts flying around the air. However, all the guys were very interested in keeping that fire going and all wanted to be the 'fire guy' for the night! At least they all helped get fire wood that time! carla

    Carla,

Yes, I know those pictures don't burn. They have that photographic coating on them. That is why I had mentioned that the pictures were glossy and glued into the book. If you had been there with the loud praying and the pictures popping... it was a freeky atmosphere!

Looking back on it now, I see how we were all 'hiped' out. I mean, we felt paralized about helping ourselves! I am not sure what I would do now if it happened again. I guess I would look for the newest item I had brought into the house and get rid of it????

    donkey,

Thanks for posting on this thread and for the chuckle! I am a different person than I was back then when I was a JW! I can laugh about it all now!

I still think its a great story. If you were there and felt and heard all that then who is anyone to say it didnt happen? Odd things do happen.

I would have been crapping my pants. Im not sure I could have stuck it out in that house for a whole year.

    katiekitten,

Well as it turns out, it took a month or so for the story to unfold after the first floor tenant told me a few things were happening. And then she gave me the beads. All happened at the end of our year stay there. By the time the house went up for sale, we had just breathed a sigh of relief that it was over, then we had to move!

And yes at the time, I could barely breathe because I was at FULL intensity! I was on high allert and could hardly move! It really was an intense experience, and to see the others with fear in their eyes, and the elder shaking and his voice would break. It just fueled the fire sort of speak!

Sirona, I was ROFLMAO when I read your post

Anywho, I really don't have much to add other than (and please don't take offense OOTB) I was skeptical when I read your post. I dunno what it was it first: the ambiguity, the discovery of some books about Satan under some floorboards, the steps coming up the stairs. But the main thing that left me scratching my head is (and please forgive me) erm...what the problem was. According to what you said there was a spirit...well, what evidence was there that it was evil? Was anyone hurt? Was anyone violated? It sounded like you lived in a haunted house, that's all.

As for the notion of JWs using a spiritual means to perform an "exorcism" It really doesnt bother me when people consider the possibility. Bruce and I occasionally tune into the religious stations and its interesting that a lot of the "advice" they give resembles a lot of the spells that I've heard witches talk about. I think most Christians would be amazed to discover how much their churches go to the source that witches use.

Preston; Your post is interesting. I was a sheltered kid when I went into the JW. I had not been around much if you know what I mean. The problem was... there was something not right about hearing footsteps coming to our bed. There was something not right about rattling beads in the china closet. There was something not right about a cold feeling in the room and feeling like you are being watched from like... 4 inches away with cold eyes. I did not mention that in my story I know. It is stated mater-of-factly now because it is in the past and I have not had an experience like that since.

I do live a what some may call 'a boring life' now. And it SUITS me just fine! I had a lot of 'drama' in my life and I thought the JWs were going to help me to be grounded and stable, like the feeling I had at grandma's farm when I was a kid. That came later in my life when I made piece with the 'demons' inside me (bad memories) and made peace with myself and learned to be still.

I did not get offended by your comment, I think your viewpoint is interesting and it helps me to see a different perspective on my experiences. I welcome it. Thank you out of the box

It is not unheard of for more than one person to see something that is not real.

Psychiatry has a term "shared delusion". I had an opportunity to treat a couple who had a shared delusion once. Something about conspiracies, the police, etc. It was interesting. (Delusion is a belief though; seeing something that isn't there is an hallucination, not a delusion.)

I personally had some wierd experiences as a jw and now I totally attribute them to power of suggestion. However, I am open to the possibility that there could be a supernatural world that may present evidence of itself some day. Until then, I don't believe in it.

    LOL, Preston, I meant it.

I'd say many experiences can be explained away, but some just can't...and they're the ones which irk the skeptics so much.
