that's really interesting cause the friend I went to the movie with, felt exactly the same way! she was totally bored, where i, on the other hand, loved the movie
i think it was because i understood why the Cage character wanted to drink himself to death
I don't even consider that a movie. Most movies that are high school/interracial based are insulting.
Take Save the Last Dance. Instead of the black kids at her new school accepting the white girl for who she was, the WHOLE MOVIE was about making her look and act 'black' (or at least the director's vision of black). This was portrayed as a positive thing.
I have to think, what if there was a movie about a black kid from the ghetto who moved to an all-white town in the mid west? Would it be seen as positive if the white kids put him in some tight jeans and a cowboy hat while changing his taste in music, the way he talks, the way he sits, the way he dances, etc.? It might make a good comedy, but a drama like STLD wouldn't fly. *If there is a movie like that, I'll have to remove my foot from my mouth!*
God I hated Erin Brockovich!... and, Saving Private Ryan
Interestingly many of the films you guys have mentioned fall easily in my top 100. 2001, Natural Born Killers, Edward Scissorhands, Eyes Wide Shut are all classics compared to all the crap that's coming out today.
