WHY THE MEMORIAL?

According to Christs words at the last supper, his followers were to "keep doing this in remembrance of me" but St Paul says that by taking the emblems we are declaring the death of Our Lord "until he arrives".

The Greatest Man book (I've been looking at it) says the "arrival of the Son of Man, Jesus Christ, with the angels must be invisible to human eyes. The arrival occurs in the year 1914."

If the GB really believe this why are they still doing the Memorial road show?

For that matter Jesus says (prior to instituting the New Covenent) "NO ONE has everlasting life unless they eat my flesh and drink my blood." So why are the other sheep taking part in a ceremony that enforces a ritual rejection of Christ's body?

I had 2 elders come over and invite me to the memorial last spring. When they were leaving I asked them what their take was on that scripture that says "until he arrives". They asked me if by that comment I thought that they shouldn't be having the memorial. I said it appears that would be the case from reading the scripture. They said they were going to look into it and get back to me. Haven't seen them since.

I was thinking that, and correct me if I'm wrong, the JW's are the only group that thinks Jesus has already "arrived". For the other groups who are still awaiting him, that scripture doesn't apply, but it sure does for the JW's.

That is exactly what it is... a public ceremony denying the savior of the world and the stupid dubs think it is so wonderful to be part of it.

HB - Good questions.

I have come to conclude that it is part of the control efforts of the organization. As you point out, there is significant reasons to believe that the organization is out of step with scripture here.

IMHO, just more rules and legalism at work. In this case particularly destructive if indeed witnesses are actually rejecting the sacrifice of Christ by following the GB on this one.

The memorial...

the only day that JW's are allowed to observe...

is simply the best way for the governing body to "rub it in" to the laity class. Cause even though they allow and support the policies of an organization that has lead to subjugation and humiliation, and deaths of thousands of people they're going to heaven...and...well...you're not.
