Hmmmm.... It seems that Mr. Bush is a better politician than I thought. I wonder how his base will react? This is a major gamble on his part, but i think he did the right thing. It would have been such a waste if he had just let thode embryos be destroyed for nothing.

Yeah, although I heard the phrase 'limited' research.

How the hell can you limit a scientist's research? Isn't that what they did to Galileo when his findings conflicted with their 'beliefs?'

PS I saw that fat pimple Jerry Falwell on CNN today talking about how life starts THE MOMENT THE SPERM AND EGG MEET. I bet he would be surprised to find out the egg exerts a considerable amount of energy in trying to rid itself of the 'invader' before accepting reality.....LOL

    Hello all,

What Bush did is a compromise position. He is allowing federal funding but only for the sixty existing stem cell lines. A stem cell line is a single fetus; from that fetus however you can incubate an endless number of stem cells. The catch is that all the stem cells from a single fetus will be genetically identical. This will not immediatly harm the scientific research, but as the research gets more advanced you need a varied genetic pool. In essence what Bush did was to give us about 2 to 3 years before we have to really decide the issue.

I wish Bush would have just funded all stem cell research, but I realize I should be happy with this minor victory for sanity.

Another suprising thing Bush is actually contemplating is to reduce the size of the American Military so he can modernize our Army. Personally I think this is another very good Idea. Large Armies by themselves do not win wars any more; you need a highly trained and well equiped professional Army.
