We do enjoy politics up here, and we get the American news, too. In fact, we are bombarded with American programming, so put the two factors together, and you can see why we are always having an opinion. (lol, dunno if that is good or bad! )

We are less interested in religion, it seems. There are differences between our cultures, that is for sure. Still, I tend to think of Americans as my cousins. They are a bit bolder, a bit brasher, and that is all because they have big hearts. I think, mostly, Canadians 'get it'. :D

    BONEY FINGERS
    Recorded by Hoyt Axton
Words and music by Renee Armand and Hoyt Axton

See the rain comin' down and the roof won't hold 'er
Lost my job and I feel a little older
Car won't run and our love's grown colder
But maybe things'll get a little better, in the mornin'
Maybe things'll get a little better.

Oh! the clothes need washin' and the fire won't start
Kids all cryin' and you're breakin' my heart
Whole darn place is fallin' apart
Maybe things'll get a little better, in the mornin'
Maybe things'll get a little better.

    Refrain:
Work your fingers to the bone - whadda ya get?
    ( Whoo-whoo ) Boney Fingers - Boney Fingers.

Yea! I've been broke as long as I remember
Get a little money and I gotta run and spend 'er
When I try to save it, pretty woman come and take it
Sayin' maybe things'll get a little better, in the mornin'
Maybe things'll get a little better.

    Refrain:

Yea! the grass won't grow and the sun's too hot
The whole darn world is goin' to pot
Might as well like it 'cause you're all that I've got
But, maybe things'll get a little better, in the mornin'
Maybe things'll get a little better.

    Refrain:

    Preston,

    Think hard ....

AMERICAN WOMAN --- get away from mee-eeee!!!

The Guess Who came immediately to my mind. There's many more, but we often don't realize they are Canadian.

Anything by Leonard Cohen that is angry, Robbie Robertson of the Band, hmmm, gimme a mo ...

Neil Young and wait for it ... Bruce Cockburn oh yeah, you know this one ...

If I had a rocket launcher, I would retaliate!

We can be insidious with our anger, us quiet Canadians.

We prefer to be known for our comedians.

Regarding interest in religion, regrettably IMHO, a large number of Americans have put way too much religion into politics, specifically, those who are hard core George W. supporters. It is my belief that religion should make the individual a better person, thus making the community a better place to live. Morality and religious values cannot and should not be legislatively dictated, which unfortunately seems to be the inclincation of the current US administration. I admire my Canadian neighbors to the north for being able to keep politics and religion separate.

I had to add this song too: Misery is the River of the World, by Tom Waits - in my opinion one of the most gifted lyricists of the last twenty-five years. And his music is amazing as well. Come to think of it, I want to have his babies. You know, if that sort of thing were kosher. And yes, I mean that if having Tom Waits' babies was a thing fit to be eaten by Jews, then I would do it. Holy crap, I need to get more sleep.

    Here are the lyrics

Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World

The higher that the monkey can climb
The more he shows his tail
Call no man happy 'til he dies
There's no milk at the bottom of the pail

    God builds a church
    The devil builds a chapel
Like the thistles that are growing
'round the thrunk of a tree
All the good in the world
You can put inside a thimble
And still have room for you and me

If there's one thing you can say
    About Mankind
    There's nothing kind about man
You can drive out nature with a pitch fork
But it always comes roaring back again

Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World

    For want of a bird
    The sky was last
    For want of a nail
    A shoe was last
    For want of a life
    The knife was last
    For want of a toy
    A child was last

Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World
    Everybody Row! Everybody Row!
Misery's the River of the World
Misery's the River of the World
    Everybody Row! Everybody Row!
