1914 Has Been Strongly Re-emphasized ( Oct 1 WT)

To all you people who naively think that the geezers at Watchtower Central are slacking off

from 1914, I've got bad news:

They are emphasizing it strongly, as if to quell any thoughts about its abandonment.

The Oct 1 Watchtower with the cover "Do You Recognize the Sign?" stresses 1914 even

beyond what they used to say about it. Previously, if they mentioned war as a sign of the

"last days" it might start with WW1 and breeze thru WW2, Vietnam, Korea and the Cold War.

Not this time! No other conflict is specifically mentioned! Apparently, that trouble

that Mr. Hitler and the Soviets gave us was no big deal!

The rest of the article follows this same bizarre pattern - as if nearly everything important in the

world happened in 1914 - and the rest is just details. AIDS you say? Ah, but remember

    the Spanish Flu of 1918?

Actually, that's the most bizarre point of all: they fanatically obsess with a set of events

that are no longer in human memory, the 'generation of 1914' having been buried.

They're stuck with all their old doctrines and can't change them, no matter what

the evidence or craziness of it all. The Watchtower's "Counter-Reformation"

is now firmly in place, complete with retrogression into the 'no college' days.

Any change can't be risked now, they're losing contributions and growth

and no disturbance to the congregations can be risked, no matter how stale

    or sterile things are.

to you who still hope otherwise, Buena Suerte!

Without bad news, they can't survive.

Since they believe so strongly in 1914, why did they bring up the generation thingy in 1995????

So they honestly and truly believe that Jesus Christ is the "invisible" ruler up in heaven right now? with everything that is going on I think maybe he needs to resign along with Michael Brown our ex-FEMA director.

Seriously what generation is going to stop this nonsense and realize that it's all made-up? I thought my generation, being 30 now, would have been the largest group to leave but there are still teens and people in their 20s that they have to sell this stuff to.

In the past I've seen posters make their predictions as to what will happen to the WTS. Many said, "the WTS will become more of what they already are". It looks like they were right!

They are going to squeeze until there are no more JWs left to squeeze.

I don't think 1914 is necessary for them to get rid of. Of course, I would like to see them do it but it mostly only bothers those who remember prophecies of the past that failed such as the "generation" debacle. To illustrate my point that it doesn't really hurt them so much I have a quote from the Adventists down below. Seems to me 1844 is even farther back than 1914. Some Christians I have heard say Pentecost 33 C.E. was the start of the last days. Therefore, who cares?

    24. Christ's Ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary:
There is a sanctuary in heaven, the true tabernacle which the Lord set up and not man. In it Christ ministers on our behalf, making available to believers the benefits of His atoning sacrifice offered once for all on the cross. He was inaugurated as our great High Priest and began His intercessory ministry at the time of His ascension. In 1844, at the end of the prophetic period of 2300 days, He entered the second and last phase of His atoning ministry. It is a work of investigative judgment which is part of the ultimate disposition of all sin, typified by the cleansing of the ancient Hebrew sanctuary on the Day of Atonement. In that typical service the sanctuary was cleansed with the blood of animal sacrifices, but the heavenly things are purified with the perfect sacrifice of the blood of Jesus. The investigative judgment reveals to heavenly intelligences who among the dead are asleep in Christ and therefore, in Him, are deemed worthy to have part in the first resurrection. It also makes manifest who among the living are abiding in Christ, keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and in Him, therefore, are ready for translation into His everlasting kingdom. This judgment vindicates the justice of God in saving those who believe in Jesus. It declares that those who have remained loyal to God shall receive the kingdom. The completion of this ministry of Christ will mark the close of human probation before the Second Advent. (Heb. 8:1-5; 4:14-16; 9:11-28; 10:19-22; 1:3; 2:16, 17; Dan. 7:9-27; 8:13, 14; 9:24-27; Num. 14:34; Eze. 4:6; Lev. 16; Rev. 14:6, 7; 20:12; 14:12; 22:12.)

    25. The Second Coming of Christ:
The second coming of Christ is the blessed hope of the church, the grand climax of the gospel. The Saviour's coming will be literal, personal, visible, and worldwide. When He returns, the righteous dead will be resurrected, and together with the righteous living will be glorified and taken to heaven, but the unrighteous will die. The almost complete fulfillment of most lines of prophecy, together with the present condition of the world, indicates that Christ's coming is imminent. The time of that event has not been revealed, and we are therefore exhorted to be ready at all times. (Titus 2:13; Heb. 9:28; John 14:1-3; Acts 1:9-11; Matt. 24:14; Rev. 1:7; Matt. 24:43, 44; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; 1 Cor. 15:51-54; 2 Thess. 1:7-10; 2:8; Rev. 14:14-20; 19:11-21; Matt. 24; Mark 13; Luke 21; 2 Tim. 3:1-5; 1 Thess. 5:1-6.)

That's exactly why I left. It was clear there could be no reform. The intellectually and morally weak are at the helm. Those with any conscience have checked out.

Before I left, I had spent more than a few years cringing in my seat every time a certain elder mounted the platform to speak. I could not even imagine what qualified this guy to be an elder, to be granted the authority to talk to others about the requirements for Christian living. Yet, week after week, there he was. One night I had a lightbulb moment and realized, "It's HIS house." I knew then that HE belonged there, while I didn't. It was a waste of time to expect him to change, or the organization to come to its senses. This was precisely the caliber of elder they wanted. It suited their needs. It was a lightbulb moment for me.

Same 'ole WT gospel. They will beat the brothers silly with more 1914 garble predicting that the bloodletting is right around the corner and how we'll be forced to watch ten thousand fall at our very side, and how the dead will be strewn from one end of the earth clear to the other end, and how they will become as manure on the surface of the ground, and how the stench from the bodies will fill the air summoning the birds to the great feast, and how we'll no doubt need bull dozers for a time after the GT to push all the bones away from the big houses that the brothers used to clean...

I can see the GB elders' face even now as the spittle flies from his terse mouth as he relates these proclamations to a terrified, petrified, and cowering stadium filled audience, even as his body gyrations, googled eyes, and fist pounding provide punctuation to these holy utterances. Yes, these are the words of the Almighty Himself as he uses His Channel to procure a people who are peculiar[ly] His own.

"Just because the blood isn't flowing in the downtown streets of America yet, doesn't mean that we were wrong in our predictions. No, it means the opposite friends. Now more that ever, more than ever.

The ushers will now be distributing the Koolaid and we'll consider a few scriptures on why it is appropriate for all to now partake".

They can't get rid of 1914 because its the hinge point of their entire belief system. Without that date the prophecy of the Bible students being chosen in 1919 never happened. They have no basis for claiming authority.

I agree with you that this sort of stuff (DOCTRINE) doesn't really matter much to the average Dub. Half of them couldn't explain to you how the Witnesses arrive at 1914 as the start of the last days anyway.
