What happens when meetings have to be cancled due to power outages or something? I'm not talking major things like Katrina. Do they make up an extra meeting or do they just skip that one altogether? Wouldn't that put them 'behind'? thanks, carla

We had to cancel a bookstudy once because of an impending storm. They did 1 1/2 bookstudies the following 2 weeks, to make it up again.

Our power went out one time and the brothers decided to have it anyway with the use of flashlights.

Dang, defd, you go to a real die hard congo. LOL
We would occassionally have meetings cancelled due to snow storms or power outages. Make up meetings were never scheduled to my knowledge. When Tues. night bookstudy was cancelled I know we just covered the material by going faster in the next couple of meetings. I can't remember if we covered missed material from Thurs night meetings....I'm sure anything important was covered in subsequent meetings.
I remember the delight when my bookstudy conductor would call and tell us a meeting was cancelled. A free night! Oh the joy. LOL Sad, huh?

It's up to each individual elder body. Usually if it's a sunday meeting or school/service meeting they will leave it cancelled. Like due to snow, power, etc. Some elder bodies are more hardcore and will hold the meeting anyway. Some think that if you feel it's unsafe then you shouldn't come. That's ok except that the friends feel obligated to attend if the meeting is being held regardless of the weather.
Anyway, it's an individual congregation thing. If there is an important part on the missed meeting they will change the service meeting schedule around the next week or cover it during local needs.
I've heard of meetings continuing after power goes out, but never starting a meeting when power is already out. If the power is out before the meeting starts the elders should realize that the KH's life safety systems aren't operating and it is therefore unsafe for a large public gathering. Some elder bodies need more common sense.

Ditto, when book studies were cancelled the material was made up the next time or over the next 2 times or not at all; depends on how the elder body wants to handle it.
Theocratic school, service meeting, public talk and WT study were not made up. The only exception was when the Memorial was on a Sunday; no other meetings could be on that day so the WT study was held on another day that week.
I used to pray for a blizzard and/or ice and extreme below zero weather.
I know one congregation that continued the meeting during a tornado WARNING. (That means one had been sighted in the area.)
Some JWs think the KH has some special protective shield.

I too had a few meetings cancelled during my 16 or 17 year stint with the "Friends". As far as I can remember they just skipped that particular meeting. Of course the brothers and sisters are strongly encouraged to study the scheduled literature non the less.

And do jws really go out in field service in the rain or snow even? I made it a policy never to go out in field service if I could help it and the thought of having to go out in the snow it just too crazy.

And do jws really go out in field service in the rain or snow even?
Only if they are behind in their pioneer hours.

I was a dub in Olympia, Washington for many years. About once a year the authorities would recommend staying off the roads because of icy conditions. The elders would cancel the meeting and it wasn't rescheduled. It was always so refreshing to suddenly have a free evening and not have to feel guilty about it.
