Francoise, you old Watchtower peddler,
I think your posts are great and I always look forward to reading them.
Matt 5:38-41 is the context. "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist AN EVILDOER. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile."
No essay from me, wouldn't be prudent, not gonna do it--George Bush voice.
Just a suggestion: With your skills, you could easily write up a very good argument that would be very newsworthy to, say, Gustav Niebuhr, religious editor of the NY Times. The liberal media has generally given JWs a pass because of their past contributions to the Bill of Rights, and they will gulp but accept skinhead Nazis or flag-burners as well as kooky folk who eschew blood transfusions and don't salute the flag. Child molestation policy is another matter.
They need to be disabused, don't you think? A little pun there:
"Disabuse," verb. "To free from a falsehood or misconception."
What do you think, gang? Is Francoise just the guy to do this, or what? There are other religious editors too ...
Your brother and fellow whatever,
Max

Francois,
O'n'F, I'm thinking of Matthew: "But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
I understood that. The version I quoted was the NIV.
But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
And you're welcome for the comments.
peace,

Max old friend, are you saying I could just roar off and write an essay that proves, say, the WTB&TS is a cult? And then submit it to the religious editor of the NYT with an expectation of having it published?
What a charming idea.
How would a person go about doing that? Would a letter to the religious editor outlining my idea first be in order? Or should I just scribble away and shot it on in?
You know, if this happens, the Borg may be put in a position where they have no choice but to debate. Now that would tickle my gizzard.

s'funny how we are all so different - i like to work away at my own little corner of the world - modelling behaviour to others - showing them how i would like them to treat me - and having a positive impact on their lives if i can - making a difference i guess it is ... i wanna be here or there or somewhere for any others who are coming away from the WT and i wanna support them ...

Francoise,
Take up Max's suggestion of writing that article. Write to this Gustav Niebuhr guy with an outline, and see what he says. No point letting your ideas and talents be wasted!!
As for the subject of this thread, I don't think on an individual level we can do much against the WTS, especially those of us who do not live in the USA.
As Path said, we can influence the people around us the most in the way we live. Think of the generalisations that the Society told us about people who left the "troof". Are we all nasty, bitter, immoral apostates? No. We can show those who have known us that leaving the WTS can be a choice for the better.
