One was taken about one month ago, near a beach where our family was camping. My parents boated over to see us, and it was a beautiful day. I happened to take one of the best photos I've ever seen of my mom: relaxed and confident, smiling with eyes twinkling, enjoying the beautiful day.
The other image we got yesterday on a CD in the mail from my dad, the results of an MRI taken on Friday. He wanted my husband to review it. Working the MRI imaging program, we could see the series of images that progressively moved through her head from 3 different angles. In one of these photos, her sillouhette (cheekbones and lips and nose and the back of her neck) are so noticeably graceful, so nearly like a Japanese painting of a geisha... but... in the center of her skull, we saw a sinister cloud in her frontal lobe eventually reveal a radical tumor before the cloud (an area of blood/swelling) closed up on the other side.
Beauty and the beast.
The best results after her surgery on Wednesday will give her 12-18 months.
