U/D Hopefully...there's no dumbshits that think they can "ride it out"...like with Katrina. That made me laugh out loud too funny

Frannie I've been thinking about you all. Remember you could come on up here anyway, and we could have black eyed peas and cornbread /. Still getting fresh tomatoes and squash. Seriously I'm hoping everyone is being sensible and cautious.

ooooooooo, that sounds wonderful, Dorothy! I'm hopin' to be able to manage a small garden this next spring, myself.

I'm glad it's begun to weaken...down to category 4 and winds only 145 mph. They're saying on the weather news that it's much like Carla that hit back in 1963, I think. We weathered that one just fine, though some ppl were stranded at the hospital where I was recuperating from a broken hip with my leg in traction that September. I remember that there was water up to the auto windows on cars stranded in the flooding that occurred, but the streets down here always flood when there're heavy rains.

I made a HUGE tamale pie for lunch today and I'm fixin' to throw together a coupla batches of Graham cookie bars (with choco chips and walnuts) YUMMY!! Gotta keep the g/kids content with goodies, yanno.

IH 45 is SO jam-packed with vehicles that have run out of gas that the authorities are opening shelters locally. Yall should see it! We live just two blocks from the service road going North on IH 45 and it's like a HUUUUUGE parking lot out there. THERE IS NO GAS!!! The oil tankers didn't deliver (for whatever reasons). There is a shortage of gas in Texas right now!

Flyin', I live in Conroe, North of Houston with my daughter and her fam. We live in Northridge area directly across IH 45 from The Woodlands Mall and about two blocks East of IH 45 service road. I moved over here a coupla months ago and am applying for SSI/SSD.

Hey Frannie, I know where that is. My dad used to live in Tomball and we'd pass it on our way from South Houston. We'd pass the Goodyear blimp over that way. Good thing you live further inland, and good luck with your SSI.

    Thanks, FHN.

HUH! My dad was born in Tomball! I wonder if they ever got acquainted, FHN?

Yup, IH 45 out here is mostly deserted with a scattering of stranded motorists. We discovered this morning that we had a gas can full (for the lawnmower) and took it over to the service road and found a young couple with 3 kids under age 4, stranded with no gas since 9 PM last night! They said they'd travelled from Lamarque since 6PM the previous night and it took them almost 30 hours to travel 75 miles!!

Meanwhile, we awakened this morning to news that a busload from a nursing home down around Belaire burned about 13 miles South of Dallas on IH 45. The brakes caught fire from the incessant bumper to bumper traffic and someone's oxygen tank exploded. More than half the passengers died because no one could get them off the bus. At least they were able to rescue more than half of them. I saw what's left of the bus. It looks like a long, black wire cage.

Needless to say, I wish your and yours all the best in this latest calamity to hit our country. You are truly and unconditionally loved!!!
