Did God ever grant what you asked for in prayer?

If the JW's had the true religion, wouldn't God make a priority to answer their prayers, and make sure that these people knew that it's God that gave them what they asked for, not just a simple cooincidence.

I suppose you could say the above about any religion. Jehovah blesses anybody who lives their life by His righteous standards. You can be a Hindu, Baptist, JW, Mormon, Muslim, etc. it doesn’t matter. The blessing comes from living by God’s principles. Look at the blessings a person enjoys by not practicing sin; better health, longer life, a productive life with material rewards, avoidance of illegitimate children, the respect of others as well as self and on and on…

Does God answer individuals prayers? I’m convinced he does when he wants too. Why does God not answer all prayers? God is not some mythical Santa Clause who exists to fulfill our every request; therefore he answers our prayers as it suits him. After all, who is the potter and who is the vessel?

So peacefulpete, who’s prayer was answered yours or the Hindu’s? Or option three, two people met each other in the course of life and conducted a business transaction that was mutually beneficial.

Yes it was prayer and answered prayer that stopped me from being baptised in the borg, many times God has answered prayer for me.

If you pray about something, and it doesn't happen, it's because "God may not answer our prayers in the way we expect", or because we "lack faith" or because it's "not in harmony with God's will" or because "God is helping us learn endurance and long-suffering".

If you pray about something, and it does happen, it's because you "asked in faith", "God is blessing you", and it was "in accord with God's will".

If you don't pray about something but it happens anyway, it's because "God knows our needs before we even ask him."

If you don't pray about something and it doesn't happen, it's because "you lack faith" and you haven't "relied on God."

And if all else fails, you can play the "time and unforeseen occurrence" wildcard.

It is superstitious smoke and mirrors.

Well, I haven’t hit the lottery yet.

Maybe that is not part of God's divine plan for your life

I had God answer my prayers many of times.. its just sometimes we have to accept "no" for an answer....

Of cause yes Faith is an important thing.....and to pray without ceasing

God knows what is best for us..... sometimes the greatest blessings is when he does say "no"

My thoughts exactly. I don't intend to offend those who feel their prayers are answered, my experience is different. About the time I left, the fog was beginning to lift on this area of Witness teaching, and I was drawing the same conclusion as Jeffro. I can recall many times feeling especially "blessed", when something desired happened or came through for me, along the lines of what other have posted above. And naturally, I ascribed it to my god-oriented life and prayer. But since I've left, and don't pray any longer, the same good things randomly occur in my life, and I have regularly dodged "bullets" so to speak, just like before. And also, BAD things have continued to strike me from time to time, again, just like before. I still feel like I haven't figured out everything yet (re: God), but the Witness teaching on prayer is way off the mark, IMHO. ----Dan
