We gave up on our internet connection yesterday evening, because we had so many power fluctuations that we were rebooting the router every minute or so. We've heard an occasional explosion from transformers locally going out, but so far, we've still got power. We're fine, no real loss of power more than a few minutes, though we're still getting gusts and scattered rain. I do dread, however, having to eat all that canned meat and such. Crabby Pants called earlier this morning and the 100 mph winds shook his house and tore out the two fir trees in the front yard right in front of the house and blew off the tops of the pecan trees across the street. He also lost a few shingles, but other than that, he's fine. Of course, their power is out. The Hilton Hotel in Beaumont where he lives also recv'd a lot of structural damage and a long-time local seafood restaurant was pretty much destroyed. They didn't report any tornadoes, but I've got a sneaky hunch that some tornadoes sneaked into the hurricane and cut their swaths since there seems to be such selective damage. That's how tornadoes do their damage....very selectively. Hurricane winds just blow everything away. Up in Jasper, a house with seven people in it was torn from its foundation and floated away in flood waters. And locally, a police officer on IH 45 had a fatal heart attack while driving on 45. ((((((Frannie))))))) *whew* So glad you're okay dear!!! All of my family in Houston got out okay, but looks like they didn't really need to. Better safe than sorry!
As for the canned meat and vegetables: have a carpet picnic, stick "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy in the VCR and pretend you're camping.

Glad you're OK, Frannie, but sorry for those who've suffered.

Thanks, ((((BG))))) I heard some evacuees in Dallas were phoning the news channels asking if it's alright to come back home to Houston, but they're informing the evacs that there is a loss of power in a lot of places and there's STILL no gas to speak of, so it'll be better if they wait till tomorrow when the authorities will have a better handle on these things and the stores begin to open again. btw, I'd rather "pass" on the carpet picnic....well...maybe that tuna will make nice sandwiches....I know the g/kids will gobble up a lot of the canned stuff and cookies and crackers (whew).

Oh, come on. It'll be fun! I remember my granny sitting on the floor with me when I was little, as I watched Captain Kangaroo on the tele. We ate Oreos and dipped them in milk. I just remember thinking how cool my gramma was to do that with me. My Dad didn't even do that. LOL!

Oreos and milk IS fun, even if you're not havin a carpet picnic, BG.....it's the potted meat and saltines that leaves something to be desired. I'm glad my g/kids are happy I'm here, tho. They've each let me know over the past coupla months since I've been here that they individually are glad I'm here and how excited they were when they found out I'd be here for a while.
Fun this morning....My daughter's schnauzer (named Austin) went to the back door and when we opened the door to let him out for his first thing in the morning constitutional....he took one look and turned to us with a look that said, "Huh-uh. Nope...I don't think so." And he turned around and went to find his "lambie" to throw in the air.

Glad to hear you guys are alright. My sister stayed in Houston (she's not far from The Galleria) and their power only flickered once. She's very glad she didn't decide to evacuate. Sometimes it's so hard to know what the best course of action is.

Bryan! I need to go run errands, but I decided to check one more time to see if you'd been able to post. Whew! Are you still in New Orleans? Can you get out?
