We did have one CO James Wells, a very good speaker and seemed to speak from the heart.
I can't remember that C.O.'s first name but one of the brothers that instructed at the Pioneer school I went to was a Brother Wells. He wasn't the C.O. in our circuit at the time I was going to Pioneer school, though. Later on, his wife and him did come to our circuit but it was after I had faded. He seemed a lot more genuine then any other C.O. I had ever met. He looked very much like the actor John Lithgow. Lol. His wife was a tall blonde haired lady. Also, they had a dog. The other C.O. that instructed us those 2 weeks was a neat freak and had this "thing" against people who had pets. It was funny how different they both were.
Brother Wells did call me once when he was the C.O. in this area. My Mother had gave him my cell phone number. He invited me to the Sunday talk. I told him I couldn't go because I was staying at my boyfriend's that weekend who lived a hundred miles away.

Did the CO ever do anything special for you during his visit?

Unfortunately for him, it was Brother Wells who had to make the call to Crooklyn and inform the Service Department that I would no longer be on the Body in the congregation of which I was a member. Nice guy. Decieved but nice and sincere. I hope he sees the truth for what it is one day.

COs come in a variety of packages.
New and inexperienced, freshly minted by the WTS; enthusiastic about doing it the WT way.
Older and experienced, learned the ropes, knew all the tricks the elders would pull having been an elder on a body himself
New but experienced as a JW, well established in prior JW life, gave up house, friends, familiar surrounds, not always sure they made the right decision; many left after a few years to take care of an older family member (convenient timing)
Old and tired, hoping to retire soon to the CO retirement plan, an apartment provided by some congregation in their KH or their JW children if they have any.
I have met some that were kind and enjoyed talking to people about the Bbile and it rubbed off on the congregation.
I have met some that rattled the cage of the elder bodies every time he came through; he had them under his thumb.
I have met some that were parents/grandparents and loved the children and understood the challenges of raising a family.
I have met some that were grasping and controlling, who confused their authority with God's authority.
I have met some that fixed my car, loaned me money to get to the convention, had me over for dinner, opened their home to me after they had retired from the road.
But the newer crop of COs and DOs lack the flexibility to be kind and assist. They are on a merryground designed by the WTS. They don't see very happy in the last 15 years including their wives.

Occasionally you'd get a good CO, but most of them were arrogant assholes who (literally) thought they were the next best thing to Jesus Christ. We had one moron several years ago, Brother Ericson, who forced a ton of brothers who worked shiftwork, to either quit their jobs and find a "day job" or step down as elders. So some quit really good jobs to appease the asshole, others were more than happy to step down as elders. He deleted so many elders in the region that apparently even Bethel took note and told him to knock it off. I heard through the grapevine that he's out west somewhere and that Headquarters removed him as a CO. LMAO! That's poetic justice!

Hey Mary, that sounds like the Dave Wells CO we had here about 7 years ago.A real tyrant dictator,he caused so much trouble around here, they're still feeling the effects of it today.Anyways, then we heard he got sent out west and is no longer a CO today.Apparently his wife had been sick for a while(wonder why) and could no longer pioneer.

Brother Emshoff (sp)
Got onto the body for asking me in a judicial meeting if I had an orgasm.
Played with my hair and tickled the back of my neck at a dinner party 2 years later...felt good but I was only about 17 at the time. Wonder what everyone else was thinking at the table.

The elders's thinking was that if you did have an orgasm, you enjoyed the unlawful sex and must be unrepentant.

We had a CO stay at our house for a week. My parents acted like Jesus was staying over! My mom spent over $300 (boy did my dad flip out! ) on new dinner ware, sheets for the guest room, towels the whole nine. It was riduiculous. I felt sorry for them. Especially the wife. She talked about how all the traveling has taken a toll on her body and even skin. More reason never to marry a brother.
