make sure to have a big hoot on the old hookah before the concert. i went to see him a couple of months ago, and i was disappointed. it was cool to be in the same room as him, one of my teen demi-gods, but i should not have done it sober, although there was lots of second hand smoke.

that said, i still practically worship him.

in canada, the documentary starts this evening on KSPS (PBS). i loved what old martin did with "the last waltz", and i am sure the the dylan doc will be so cool. better than the concert. i'll make sure it is ;)

    cheers,

    ts

yeah, I have "the last waltz" on DVD, brilliant film.

The Dylan doc was good. A little too much "background" for me but then I know it already and would rather just see Bob

Did you see the very very early TV appearance by bob? That was, believe it or not, from a kids TV programme ("Watch With Mother" I think) that the BBC had in their archives where they had a "folk singer" on who happened to be in the UK ... young Bob!

One thing I think was wrong ... I believe he called himself Dylan after Matt Dillon off "Gunsmoke" and only changed it to the 'y' spelling after becoming familiar with Dylan Thomas later.

Checked some books, and it was actually Micky Jones the drummer who uttered the famous words "Play ...ing loud" at Manchester. I always thought it was Bob who turned and said that to the band.

Micky Jones went on to TV work; he's the junkyard owner guy in Home Improvements.

i don't know if i saw that very early tv appearance. i think probably not.

i watched part 1 of the doc last night, and part 2 is on this evening. it was reall good! i really enjoyed it. martin put me right back in the heady days of the mid 60's really well. and i was so impressed at bob's interview. i still like the way his brain works.

Saw it last night - absolutely brilliant!
Dylan has proved to be one of the greatest singer songer writers of the 20th century.

I saw it, too, and I'm going to watch the second half tonight.

To be honest, I love some of his songs, but don't care for some of the others. I enjoyed seeing all the 60's folk singers again. Especially Joan Baez. She has an awesome voice, and plays a wicked guitar !! I love every song she made. I have a couple of albums of her music. I have one of Dylan. Thanks for the heads-up, Simon.

i agree it was well done...much longer than i expected.

also, thought i'd mention this exhibit at experience music project in seattle. though possibly not worth a trip on its own, i should mention its right next to (actually in same building) as the science fiction musuem. and they've extended it through april. http://www.emplive.org/visit/galleries/dylan.asp
