I don't know why Pastors won't challenge a JW doctrine instead of arguing in favor of their own.
Jehovah's Witness Debate in Southern CA

Some people like to have that type of debate with a witness but the problem I see is that JW usually walks away not realizing he lost. What I have seen in is a JW learning a few words of Greek then being arrogant enough to try to debate a professor of Greek who devoted his entire like to the subject. I mean only an idiot would spend a few hours reading about quantum physics then start debating Stephen Hawking on the subject. To me the WT is built on a false foundation. Christ coming in 1874, 1914, millions now living never dying and so forth. If they can't see the problem with things like that why spend hours debating the Bible with them.

The public apparently doesn't know how wrong the Jehovah's Witnesses are, although it seems they are catching on.

I wish they hadn't picked the topic of the trinity. My daughter and my JW hubby did a round or two on the subject, scriptures flung back and forth like ping-pong balls. Just as you predict, both walked away saying, "What a jerk." and "I roundly beat him/her on THAT one."
I'd rather they picked something along the lines of the blood doctrine, shunning, good works, or Judicial Committees. Drilling down to the essence of how Christians are to TREAT their fellow-man.

the TRINITY is the worse possible topic to debate a jw on. i never argue the trinity. with jw's because that's what they want to debate. always go for false prophets, teachers, liars, using god's name in vain,1914. and prove to me that jesus choose the wt in 1919 from wt books from that time. any of these topics . no jw can answer. but i wish the pastor well. john of the no debating of the trinity class.

The topic of discussion will be the Trinity.
They should have picked a different topic. This is probably the only thing that the WTS teaches that I still believe. I don't believe in the Trinity cause it never made any damn sense to me. And my own personal opinion is that when the various gospels were first being compiled, I think many of the scriptures were altered somewhat to make Jesus and God sound like they were one and the same. I was amazed to learn in one of my courses in Religious Studies that the original gospels were edited and re-written several times before finally becoming part of the NT. By that time, I think early Christians had elevated Jesus to being something he was not. This pastor would have been far better off debating when Jerusalem was destroyed. There's ample evidence of 586 BCE and zero evidence of 607 BCE. This would have done alot more damage to the WTS beliefs than the Trinity! -

I know the result of this debate. Just picture the JW being the guy with the shorts.

Isn't the JW afraid that when he walks into the church, the demons will jump out of the pews and get him?
