In any organization in which rank may be attained it is inevitable that upon attaining such rank, the individual will begin to assume the rules are for everyone else but not for him. This was, in my 30 years of experience, just as true in the WT organization as it was anyplace else.

Therefore I'd expect, as the anecdotal evidence unfolds, to learn that GB members have many "legitimate" ways to avoid field service. They can merely cite the other important demands on their time.

This was certainly true of elders in the congregations I was in. Very few elders were really "active" in the field ministry. They were very good at creating the appearance of being active, but how often did "pressing congregational business" take them away from field service?

Rank has its privileges. Nowhere is this more true than among JWs.

Once, a CO gave advice to members of the German branch committee about their meeting attendance. :-)

Given that most of them are well into their 90s it seems unlikely...its extremely difficult rolling these iron lungs down the street and getting them to the doorbell....

Right photo. Man in an iron lung looking into the mirror mounted above

Yes.......like Saturday morning cartoons........which is probably where they get most of their ideas from.

Thanks guys for the insight. . .
Which means the "spirit" of masterful excuse-making filters down to local congregations. That doesn't supprise me, they've built impossible regulations to follow just like Pharisees Jesus described in 23 Chapeter of Mathew and then avoid taking the lead.
Unfortuantely, in process they are creating hypocritical spirit that permeates entire organization and is turning it into "Painted grave" as Jesus eloquantly described it.

Its probably more likely that they would be assassinated by kerrazy apostates! So they keep them sheltered back at the hive! Imagine the scenario, sniper rifles trained on to Columbia Heights, popping them off one by one as they go "from house to house, from door to door"

That would make a great RPG computer game, "Ministry Militia - Service is Rendered" 100 points for slaying the Boss at teh end of the stage, a huge, shuffling Fred Franz raining down mumbling quotes at you, as you reload the winchester, special tip, aim for the ragged patches of suede on his wingtip brogues, its his weakness................

Schroeder is in a semi coma state. However, at least once a month I see him and his wife in from the of the Towers building on Clark Street out in service. Schroeder is in a wheel chair with two nurse/body guards and has the two mags pinned to his shirt. He has no idea where he is and what he is doing, but at least, he is a regular publisher.

Did Rutherford ever go out in field service?

I'm sure I read that it was he who instigated the field service but never actually went out himself!
