Yo Min,
Out with the Brown phalse prophet, in with the New True prophet. Finally
Bonnie clyde,
Its on page 1 of this thread. The 1968 Kingdom Ministry.
.? And yet the end of that sixth creative ?day? could end within the same Gregorian calendar year of Adam?s creation. It may involve only a difference of weeks or months, not years
Doh! damn paper trail............
Nark:
The texts you quote are Greek texts quoting the Greek Septuagint: in none of the extant manuscripts do they contain anything like "Jehovah" -- only kurios, "Lord". That's the only solid fact we can rest on.
Yes! This is where the argument begins and ends. Its my belief the witness has to look at what the WT has done to NT scripture, and how it affects the message.
This is one of my favorite questions to the Jw: where in scripture does Jesus specifically, come out and plainly state that this name "Yahweh" is the name given, and this name alone is to be glorified.
Like the name of Jesus,Re: Act 4:12

Furthermore, there is no salvation in anyone else, for there is not another name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must get saved." NWTTough to get around eh?
I refer to my parents by their first name as well as my inlaws. I do not object to my children calling me by my first name as I think it shows we are more that father and child but friends. My children tell us everything that goes on in their life. We are their confidants. Even as young children I did not object to my first name being used as long as it was used with respect. I volunteer in a primarry school working closelt with a few students aged 9 - 12 . They use my first name as well and I allow it as long as it is use with respect.
LOL. Because this is your chioce, does not make an argument that this is how we are to address the "heavenly Father"
In fact we can call the hevenly Father "daddy" which is a far cry from a modernized version of Yahweh.
I could just picture the Father sitting back listening to people call out the wrong name, shaking his head and wagging the finger, no, no, no, Im not going to listen until you say the anglo-version Jehovah.
This makes your god very, very small and petty. Im positive the controler of the universe is not worried about how believers say the personal name of the God of Israel.
For me the most compelling evidence that Jesus used his fathers name was the texts I quoted earlier he made his fathers name known and would make it known.
What really should concern you is how the WT picks and chooses how to translate Kurios to best fit doctrine. Esspecially 1Thess 4:15......

For this is what we tell YOU by Jehovah's word, that we the living who survive to the presence of the Lord shall in no way precede those who have fallen asleep [in death] ; NWTCheck the Westcott and Hort since thats where your text(NWT) comes from. You'll be surprised.
Not using the correct pronunciation in English is not a problem. Even today when people go to other countreis people will miss pronounce names. The point is the indivduals involed know by the name just who is being spoken of. By using Jehovah wich has been widely accepted since before the JKV of 1611 people know that it refers to the God of the Jews. It was only last centry that religions started making a real effort to get rid of it.By that reasoning everyone prior to 1611 got Gods name wrong. C'mon Ben.
It is true that the English version of Jehovah is not the correct pronunciation, but we accept all the other ?J? names in the Hebrew texts. and Jesus is not the way to pronounce his name in either Greek of Hebrew but we use it.JW Ben, perhaps but you talking about your God. You should at least refer to him as Yahweh. BTW would you call your dad by his first name?
I love this question for the dubbie, my current study (its my hobie) refers to " Jesus answers Satan " do not tempt Jehovah your God"
Of course this is from the NWT "new way to twist things."
In fact nowhere in the NT does Jesus specifically "glorify" Gods name. Its a good question if you can keep their feet to the fire.
ever since i left the jw's i visited a few born-again christian churches and i felt like i was sitting in a kingdom hall of jw's.
because born-agains are more like jw's then they want to admit.
both jw's and ba's think they know everything.
booker t,
I throughly disagree, I was born a Jw, and now a "born againer" if you will, the view I had of a "BA" s while a witness was a very distorted view.
The only comparision that needs to be made is what does the Jw do with Christ, verses the importance of Christ to the born again Christian. Christ being the focal point of Christianity and Jehovah the OT God of Israel for the witness.
Most all main line Christian faiths hold the same core beliefs for several hundreds of years, of course not according to the dubs who's doctrine has shifted like the sands in a recent 120 years or so. Hmmmmm?
here is the link.
scripture twisting: twenty ways the cults misread the bible .
i was hoping to find some good info on how different bible based cults use the exact same verses in the exact same ways to instill fear in the members.
You could start with a really good free program "E-Sword" And download all the free Bibles. Lockman foundation will charge for their Bibles. And compare with the parallel feature.
my wife was born in the jw religion but was never baptised.
she is currently studying and is on the road to baptism.
i am an atheist, and i have little comprehension of the bible.
Terry: Never make a statement; only ask a question. A question is never an assertion and will not "break".
Great advice Terry. After three years of studying with different jws, this method is the best, I personally look for Jws to study with, I enjoy it.
The question leaves the one asking in total control. And remember its not what you believe, this is a trick they can angle on, attacking what you believe. Dont allow this. They are the ones selling the "eternal life insurance" the burden is always upon them.
Just take it slow, you will make mistakes its ok. This site is a great place for information, just keep asking.
