are you guys aware that your hero, who was not in it for the money but to change policies, settled without changing anything?

However, even such a vile person can change and publicly announcing him in this way would make anyone accepting a change in him very difficult. Basically this person would become an outcast with no hope. This is not Christian. Plus, if he did change, and moved to another congregation, would it be expected to announce him as a former pedophile? Would that be reasonable and a Christian thing to do?

You have mirrored a great party line in the above statement. I heard that one two weeks ago from my thoroughly indoctrinated, loyal to the bone, ignorant, self serving sister.!!!!!

The sin and crime are that an adult abused a child. It takes time to work out a means to do this and get away with it for as long as possible. This is what abusers do very well as they improve their methods of defiling a child.

I tell you, from experience. The so called "change in him" would never be for real. It would be and has been shown to be a surface change and an equally shallow form of repentance. This talk of not creating ..."out cast with no hope.." and the need for Christian love is too weak an argument to bear considering.

The society has no problems with tossing anyone who has a doctrinal difference to the society than it does to a paedophile....a repeat paedophile at that.

One has only to look into the old rantings of Rutherford or the mad rants by Morris 111 about dress code to know that they are never backward in publicly denouncing something if it suits the WTs current position. No. Not at all concerned with developing an image of "modesty" in a most public manner. Anyone reading these discourses or watching the videos will get the impression that the society is very much against fleshy sins.

It is very un- Christian to "not warn" families in a most public manner about the dangers of such a person in their midst. So many crimes have been committed throughout history in the name of religion. And so many have been covered over in the name of protecting their social status.

Look at how much extra time the society gave to this man to carry on with his sick perversions. How many more years he gained to commit crimes. And all due to the fact that he was NOT PUBLICLY NAMED AND SHAMED BY THE WTBTS.

Candace has probably had enough by now. She must feel exhausted from all the stress and the appearances and the threat to her "truth", which turns out to be very much the truth of what happened to her and those who were also his victims.

Please don't go try to sell this Christian love bullshit. I can't go on at the moment, I'm so sick of this angle of convenience that the JW religion has used.

so i went out today with my broken leg and got accosted by an old lady, with some magazines.. it was my first ever encounter with a jw in ten years, and i had said 'i know you are jw's, i'm not interested thank you.

" twice.....then she started talking about my broken leg and how wonderful we are made and how amazing the healing process is.... and that's when it all started...."i used to be a bethelite pioneer, now i'm an atheist doctor...".

she was with me a good 30 mins, her elder husband left very annoyed but she stayed, and she was dying to hear everything i spurted out, despite aggressively defending every point, from military engines to paedophilia.

Congratulations!!! So well written. I like it when people really express themselves well. (I love story's and experiences like this) It makes me feel more or less normal. Ha!

My particular Elder really struggled with his feelings of "outrage", as I sat easily on the floor of my apartment and asked how they came by so many doctrines, parallel prophecies, ...........you name it. When I jumped up and showed him my Revelation Study book. He just dismissed it as no longer valid and told me it was now defunct. (not his words but the gist of it) He told me to throw it away as it was not important to understand this book anymore. I told him........"..just as well, because it's so badly written that it would never make it to the first rung of the ladder in "publisherland"

His wife looked aghast, nervous, very subordinate.........all of the above and more.

He took my comment very personally, it seems that I was not entitled to make observations............ challenge his sense of importance as an elder. He was angry. Really. He had trouble holding back from telling me off.

His position has given him a sense of self worth that supplants any potential for thorough research, both secular and religious. I swear to god, he was so ready to put me in my 59 year old place.

I felt sorry for his wife and wondered if we should both have head covering and remain physically lower than him, so as to show our submissiveness. He was bloody arrogant. He still wants to come back though..........with his wife of course

Is this a big reason that JW's are so attractive to some out there?

in another thread i saw it mentioned that this elder and his wife were trying to preach to the poster here and said that they liked that jw's had answers to their questions.

i've heard that over and over throughout the years, and it does make sense on a level.

people in other religions sometimes have questions and are told that this or that is a mystery, or that they just have to have faith, etc.

I would have considered the JWs having an answer for everything to be wonderful many years ago. Now I consider those priests or pastors who admit they don't know it all, to be the more honest. They are not tickling my ears so to speak. And, like many of the responses hear, I agree that the society has made a royal f(*& up of just about all they once held so dear regarding doctrine.

Guess I said more than I should have about "the truth"

a sister came by my house today.

not to see how i was or why i have not been to meetings for the past months - she needed to borrow some money for the upcoming convention.

we chatted a little, and i cound not keep my mouth shut about some questions i have and some discoveries i made about the doctrine.

Anyway, she told me smth very strange. That they have been advised, when they read the bible the read not with the intention of getting information from it but when they read to only ask themselves "what do I learn about Jehovah"

How ridiculous is that? How can anyone tell anyone "how" to read anything?

This is what I am facing with the elder and his wife who have come to study the bible and only the bible. It's going to be interesting to see the reaction he has to my questions. He was ready to pull rank on me during our last visit. I felt quite sure he was about to tell me off, as he has so much sway in being an elder. He looked very annoyed at my obvious sense of equal footing, whilst his wife sat mute the whole hour or so.

Looking Back In Retrospect To 1975...

greetings, folks: so, it's been 40 years since 1975. and, if you were actively involved with the witnesses back then, the mindset of many was, that by early autumn of 1975, it would mark the anniversary of 6000 years of human existence.

and, the hope was then, that it would mark the start of the 1000-year of christ, from the heavenly realm.

but, looking back now, 40 years ago, in june of 1975, only 3 more months remained until early autumn.

It was my fanatic sister who bought the whole thing, lock, stock and barrel. She made sure her two sons were perpetually screwed up enough, that they would never have children later on. It was she who was warning them that children would be a burden to them and they would be better off waiting until the nice new system which never came.

So, no. I didn't notice anything unusual except in her mild form of insanity which still reigns supreme today as she waits, once again, for the death of everyone else...except her JW family.

Things were pretty good in Australia, I didn't even know I was supposed to die.

I hope it turns out to be "new light". New, sudden, blinding light that pisses every decent JW woman off, because they are the ones who do so much of the preaching work.

Why is the Governing Body pushing the very young(5-12 year old) into getting baptized into subservience to the Corporation?

i think a very simple reason may be because the very young are pretty much the only ones naive enough to take the plunge these days.

with the internet available to inform people about the deceptive lies printed by the wt corporation it seems that they are getting their member from the less informed population like the elderly and the very young.

they/gb hate higher education because they loose members who get one and so they are focusing on those that are dumb enough to believe their boogie man bull shit about jehovah choosing their corporation and anybody not a part of it he will destroyed at armageddon.. also we need to consider that they view these young people as a potential free labor source so the sooner you get them hooked into baptism with the threat of disfellowshipping you can get more free labor out of them..

It's classic "get them while their young and indoctrinate". Many other religions have done it for centuries. The baptism of infants by the Catholic Church is a savvy way to keep numbers up and keep a hold on the minds of it's followers. I think that the GB would not surprise me one bit if it decided to use the same method of constantly growing a new generation of followers from current parents, who came into religion from the last parents........and so on. Of course, they will have to live down the tribulation not happening on time and Armageddon not happening..........and the older generation of white haired ones dying off.

Ha! That puts a new spin on "this generation" teaching.

JW's copied Mormons?

i've been doing a lot of research about mind control, cults etc which led me to look into the world and beliefs of mormons.

the similarities between jw's and mormons are staggering!

it's almost a carbon copy which only a few differences.. did the jw's set out to copy them i wonder?

A friend of mine, a male friend at that. Has been disfellowshipped from the LDS as he did not stand up to scrutiny. His brother is a pastor? I think that's what they are called. Anyway, we have sat beside a cold, swift brook drinking our wine and compared notes on our religious pasts.

Although doctrinally very different at certain points........The method of culling independent thinking is the same. The standards of morality are the same and the stresses are exactly the same. So too, is the damage to the rest of a child's life on through to adulthood.

Many times he has been suicidal and not able to figure out where it comes from. I gently try to tell him about counselling. Serious cult breaking counselling. I am having it every week and I have a decent woman who knows what she is doing. So in summary. My friend is suffering the same sort of distress as any disfellowshipped JW. Mostly he is suicidal and thinks that the world is going to end. I try to help...........
