Guide to Helping Other Break Free
by LisaRose ini have come up with a guide to helping others break free of the watchtower, based loosely on steve hassan's book, combatting cult mind control and incorporating experiences of other jwn posters who have been successful in helping their family leave the watchtower.
i posted an earlier draft of this and got some great feedback.
here is the final version with some additional information and incorporating many of your suggestions.

I think in a lot of ways, yes. I was so afraid to have an opinion before because I thought I had to read the WT to tell me what I thought. I guess I feel more confident in my morals. -

Getting it out of my system, a VERY long introduction/outpouring..
by adimmedlight inwarning, novel ahead:.
after a few months of lurking on this site, i've decided to take the plunge...i don't really care so much about introducing myself, but somehow there is some relief in the thought of getting my little story out there, just getting it out of my system.
i am the oldest of 5 kids.

That's what's missing from our family
by dissonance_resolved intonight as i was putting my son to bed, we were looking out his bedroom window from his bed, down upon the neighbors' house across the street.
they have a beautiful, big sparkly christmas tree in their front window and my son gazed at it and said, "that's what's missing from our family.
" talk about daggers through the heart!.

That is a very similar situation to our family now. I think the children will value having your unconditional love no matter what. I wouldnt put them in the middle by giving them secret gifts they might feel guilty for. As a child I was constantly put in the situation of choosing which parent to make sad by celebrating or not. I'm still an anxious person in large part because of that. But I do try and do something to acknowledge or recognize each child. Holidays are mainly about the family togetherness.
I'm sorry for the crappy situation you (we!) are in.

I don't post a lot since I only ever visit the site on my iPhone, but my first post / thread was the longest. 4 pages. It was actually thrilling for me to be honest about myself, to complete strangers, and have them be more accepting and supportive that I'm afraid my family will ever be. This site has kept me sane.

Commenting At The Meetings---Did You Enjoy It?
by minimus inwas that important for you?
most people, i believe, forced themselves to give an answer.
i knew many elders and servants over the years being counseled because they rarely answered.. funny thing....my mom who is 88 cries if she doesn't give a comment.

Minimus, my mom is the same. Gets really upset when she can't answer more than 15 times a study.

Would You Become A JW Again If Local Congregations Could Become Independent?
by Space Madness infor those who still believe in god, if local congregations could break away from the watchtower would you consider becoming a witness again.
this would mean no more governing body, circuit overseers, watchtower magazines, and each congregation could have its own "new light".
most of us left because of the control (no college, disfellowsipping) but if the watchtower was out of the picture, all of this would disappear.
