The above comment is worse - if you successfully faded, and are "useful" enough (ie. doing well enough in life where they want you around to use you and your connections), they will just bug you about coming to meetings when they see you. Even with my full beard and wandering around with women I'm not married to.
Years before I left, I decided ignoring people was stupid and always said "hi" to disfellowshipped people I saw. There are a few who also realize/do this. Not associating with someone doesn't mean being rude and treating them like crap.

Elder ignores me at Walgreens here in Milwaukee.

i was walking out when i noticed an elder that i grew up with walking towards me.
he kinda looked in my direction, the turned his head away and kept walking with his nose in the air.

Karl is weird, and actually make a LOT of sense if you look at it from an introverted perspective. He's just an introvert that never bothered to read up on a lot of things, that's a generally decent guy, that lucked into being relatively famous.
If you watch his fourth series without Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, his insights on humanity and relationships actually make a ton of sense.The Ricky Gervais radio show is where all of this breeds from. Look up Ricky Gervais show on youtube for animated versions of a lot of it.

Women elders, what difference would they make?
by Freedom77 inokay, let's do a big what-if: suppose the gb for its own unfathomable reasons suddenly got new light (tm) and decided to start appointing women elders and ministerial servants.
they would, of course, refer to the examples of junia (apostle), and priscilla and phoebe (deaconesses in wordlyspeak) in the greek scriptures; never mind what mental somersaults it would take to get them there.
stranger things have happened in wt history.. that being the case, would having women in positions of real authority make any significant difference in the congos or in the borg as a whole, and why or why not?.

In a perfect world, the female elders would be the same. The issue is that they would come from a crop of people that were seen as less-then-men for YEARS, even beyond the progressions of feminism, ad the immediate culture shock would exaggerate the already existing backstabbing and power plays many have already. These aren't every day women we're talking about, these are women that are willingly JWs, which makes a huge difference.

Yeah, the International Conventions in Detroit are across the street from my loft. They come off as horrible, horrible people in general - I can relate. I'm actually out of town for this one (this is the second of two this year), thank goodness.

Part of my back room meeting was saying I had psychological issues that prevented me from feeling things, making me focus too much on facts which were too confusing, but I am waiting on Jehovah to help me. Then I stopped going to meetings, period. Successful fade for 5 or so years at this point.

I never understood the whole "Lot got so drunk he had sex with his daughters." Either he was so drunk he couldn't get it up because he just passed out, or he knew exactly what he was doing and just lowered his inhibitions to do what he wanted to in the first place.
Maybe that's why JWs ban drinking any amount you can actually feel - if you understand what "drunk" feels like, you understand that "being drunk" doesn't work like they try to pretend that it did with him.

most people, i believe, forced themselves to give an answer.
i knew many elders and servants over the years being counseled because they rarely answered.. funny thing....my mom who is 88 cries if she doesn't give a comment.

I liked commenting, but it was because I never just read from the paragraph; I was always the 2nd/3rd person to comment on something to give added perspective or move the study forward when everyone else got stuff wrong or didn't get to the point.

I was SCARED of a God that would flip out and have bears eat children and other psychotic things over a minor transgression. So it was more like fear > forced worship. I saw no reason to love someone that caused my life to suck and did nothing to directly help me when I asked for it, though.
