When I was younger, my mom use to tell me that she would call the Boogeyman to come get me if I didn't clean up my toys. That fear she put in my mind caused me to do exactly as she said and clean up my toys. Did that Boogeyman actually exist, most likely not. How can you prove that something you've never seen doesn't exist? Just like big-foot.

Now replace that scenario of the Boogeyman with Satan and replace my toys with religious beliefs and practices. Do you see the similarities? Both are used to get someone to do their agenda.

Were you ever actually a JW?? You don't remember that Peter said Satan was a roaring lion??

Again, you need a physical item of fear to put the invisible fear of an invisible entity into peoples minds.

If I put an actual roaring line to the right and of you and then tell you to the left is Satan. I then go on to say, "Trust me, that Satan on your left is 10x more dangerous, you should run to your right to that lion. You have a much greater chance of survival. Plus, any damage that lion does is temporary. That Satan on your left though, man, that will be permanent."

Which way do you think you'll run? I bet I know which way.

That's exactly what the speaker did and that is the line of reasoning you are trying to defend.

If he had said Satan and pedophile are equally bad, ok that's better.

I see your point. My whole point is why even compare it to a pedophile at all? Why bring that up? It's because most parents are terrified of someone causing harm to their kids and most kids are terrified because all they hear.

So here you have a guy playing off of that fear of a child predator and using it as a way to make people even more afraid of the devil to keep them in line. You're taking a real, physical fear that people already have and using it to put fear about an invisible entity.

Let's say you have a fear of clowns. It's as if someone is taking your fear of clowns and using it in a way to make you afraid of bats. "You think clowns are bad, did you know bats are actually 10x worse and actually bite you?" What you are doing is taking someones existing fear and using that to plant fear into another object. You are playing with their fears and emotions for your own agenda or in this case, belief.

You're going to die anyway so what difference does it make if you die a few years earlier at Armageddon?

Typical religious person. "you're going to die" when someone doesn't agree with a teaching or has a different view. I hope you live a long and prosperous life and you sentence me to death. Yet, you're the christian. We wouldn't be using fear to get me to believe what you believe, now would we? I feel like I've seen this tactic used somewhere else...

It's as if you want to structure rules off of the Hebrew Scriptures and give the appeal or front of the Greek scriptures.

Still no explanation as to why the Devil is more dangerous than a pedophile. Another example of a religious person. Making random claims and refusing to back them up.

Haha, that is a very ironic statement.

Reminds me of Watchtower lessons when they attack other religions for having "man made rules" and then proceed to say no tight pants, turn in your field service time, don't watch X movie, must be a ms by 21 or you aren't a good marriage prospect, 10 hours a month shows "you're" spiritual etc.. Leave you scratching your head saying wtf!?!

For those who still believe in God and Satan, Satan is a greater threat than a pedophile. That is what the speaker said. Anything else is your own conjecture. You see what you want to see even when it isn't there.

In what way? Please explain in what way Satan is a greater threat than a pedophile? I've only heard you just state it's a greater threat with no line of reasoning or any evidence to back the claim up.

I'll show you tons of reasons and evidence a pedophile is more dangerous.

Shadow- Going with your line of reasoning, if Satan is the evil one then didn't he cause that molester to go after kids? Would that not put the molester and Satan on a level playing field since Satan "caused" the incident?

If that's the case, you should fear both equally. I don't know about you but I'd fear god way more than Satan. God killed more people in his OWN book than Satan did. Don't you think it'd be the other way around? Also, why should IMPERFECT humans be punished and put to death by god when his own creation, perfect, is the one influencing and causing people to do these wicked acts?

Who's the one to be feared more, the devil trying to influence me or the god who will destroy me at Armageddon because I didn't live a life according to a man's interpretation of an old book that can interpreted 100's of different ways and translated 100's of ways. Heck JW can't even interpret it right, it changes yearly. Yet my life hangs on that book and understanding it correctly. Sounds about right.

Glad you posted that Oubilette. I was thinking the same thing! There are even apps you can download now that show all registered sex offenders in your area.

But it's only temporary so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Satan has ever lasting affects.

It's sad hearing people trying to justify and minimizing child abuse. What's next? Murder is only temporary but Satan is forever?

That dude gets blamed for everything. If Satan is so adamant on proving man doesn't need god, don't you think he'd be trying to make stuff work instead of causing destruction? Doesn't make much sense.

The sooner you realize you are in control of 90% of your life you'll be a lot happier. When something goes wrong it's usually because of an action on your part, people just like to blame someone else. When something goes good, the same is true. We're in control about 90% of the time, the other 10% is stuff we can't control, but we can control how we react to it and deal with it. Some people feel better blaming an invisible entity though.

Christians would generally agree with that statement which implies that eternal damage is greater than temporary damage no matter how painful it is. To condemn that statement would condemn other Christians as well. And, yes, I do have first-hand knowledge about child abuse.

I'm not getting into a debate as to whether Satan is real or not. That's not the point of this thread. Saying Satan is real is one thing. Using it as a fear tactic to get parents under control is another. If you don't see the fear tactic used there by linking it with pedophiles, I don't know what to tell you.

Also, if you have a kid and anything remotely comes close to someone taking advantage of them, feel free to let me know how "temporary" it is.

I'm still not sure how you read this post and came away with it attacking whether Satan is real or not.
