Metatron, sorry to say that your line of reasoning does not apply. JW's love quoting the scripture in 1 Thessalonians 5: 3 -- "Whenever it is that they are saying, "Peace and security!" then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them"
In short:
If there is no peace: "World conditions are getting from bad to worse! The end is near!!!"
If there is peace: "1 Thessalonians 5: 3 is being fulfilled. The end is near!!!"
Either way, they are right!

ok so aparently there was this young girl who wanted to study with the jw's because she loved the bible so much.
she asked her fathers permission but he refused, after much nagging though he said she could have a study if she was prepared to have one of her fingers chopped off.
he thought the is would stop her but she was willing so he got a knife and cut off one of her fingers... a little while later she wanted to attend the meetings and he said no and again when nagged said she could attend meetings if she had another finger chopped off so she agreed and he chopped off a second finger.

To be fair to the Japanese, Japan's population is in decline, so it is likewise reflected in the JW statistics. Besides, many have moved to serve in other countries where the need is greater, and that is not reflected in the statistics

Good points. Just to clarify, I was just mentioning the reference used by elders to justify their disfellowshipping individuals without the presence of the congregation, but by no means support it. In the account of Ananias & Sapphira, it is also stated that there were other younger men present at the scene who helped to bury both Ananias & Sapphira
a young jw i used to know (nice person), said within earshot to a non df'd ex jw he knew that his "..parents are up and down in the relationship and the elders(tm) are going to help.".
the non df'd ex jw said to me that he considered that after the elders(tm) get involved his parents were bound to split up.
the non df'd ex jw also commented: "what do elders know?
Argh... imagine how ridiculous it would be to give that advice to individuals who suffer from depression...
