Two pet peeves of mine
by Sour Grapes inthere are two things that just drive me crazy.
one is that the art work in the watchtower is treated like they are actual still photo's taken thousands of years ago.
your will hear comments about look at the smiles on their faces or the sadnees or happiness in their eyes, or notice the reaction of the crowd, etc.

In the staged photos householders or weak bro's are wearing casual clothes while spiritually strong ones are wearing a suit and tie.
It's a wonder they don't show thieves wearing stripey pyjamas and a black eye band.

There are positive and negative reactions to colour.
Blue can be calming it can also be depressing.
Red can stimulate anger or appetite.
I think blue is also most peoples fave colour.

"Hhmm a simple 'I do' will suffice Mr Manson"

What used to get me was in those pictures of paradise the people would be wearing stuff like
jeans and trainers and polo shirts straight out of a target catalogue. So obviously Jehovah saves
all the department stores and chinese sweat shops. Dumb-asses!

Are Today's Elders The Same As The Elders of the Last Century?
by minimus ini was 24 when i was first appointed as an elder.
i very much respected the old timers, the elders that were basically good guys, family men and who tried to be good examples, although they knew they were far from perfect.
i haven't been to a meeting in about a decade and i wonder if the elders of today are that much different than those of yesteryear.

I was baptised in 1990, and at that time there were elders around that you could safely have indepth discussions with.
Those guys don't exist anymore. They are too frightened to voice anything that isn't "in the script", lest they
lose their position. They are a bunch of soulless drones-especially the younger ones.
But this is exatly what Big Mother wants- brain dead, obedient, cannon fodder.

This case reminds me of an experience Bro Lett related at a zone visit a few yrs back.
In it he told of a 10yr old witness girl who offered her teacher a bible study. The teacher
agreed but only if the girl came to the teacher's house one evening a week - alone!
The girl agreed and went along, the end result of this wasn't made clear that I remember,
but the girl of course was praised for her courage, other young ones were encouraged to
be the same.
I was outraged at the irresponsibility of this admonition.
Honestly my flabber had never been so ghasted!!

Another Elder Steps Down
by jookbeard inthe wonders of facebook have accidently made my paths cross with the sister of this particular elder who served in my circuit (london) for many years and would have probably been made an elder at the very beginning of the arrangment in the early 1970's he knew my father very well, spoke at ca's visting speaker etc, and was a member of the hlc, he resigned a few years ago, he was a real hard core make no bones about it and would have been one of the very last you's expect to step down and leave, just goes to show..

Elders are in a damned if you do, damned if don't situation.
They are damned by the weak ones if they try to enforce the rules and protocols as set out by the GB.
They are damned by the sticklers if they go soft on the weak or wrongdoing etc.
No win situation, who the hell would want it. The guy is better off.
