Many JWs I have known, refuse to even shop from church-owned charity stores.
They have snidely critisized other churches for focusing on charity rather than "spiritual food!"
i can't help but notice how this past year alone has seen the gb start to turn more towards the teachings of the christ instead of peddling their falsities.. study articles have talked in length about the fine works of christ.
assemblies have been dedicated to speaking about christ.
and this month's broadcast is about doing good to others copying the example christ left for us.. what's more shocking is that losch actually says kids should speak, share, and even give food and clothing to non-believers!!

researchers in york used magnetic stimulation to target an area of the brain called the medial frontal cortex in a group of volunteers.
a control group received a sham treatment.. both groups were asked to think about death.
the group who experienced the magnetic energy reported 32.8% less belief in angels, god and heaven.. when faced with difficult challenges people often take refuge in ideology.
Just asking in case I missed it.
Interesting research, thanks cofty.

So, just wondering, what would be the possible application of something like this?
It sorta, kinda, reminds me of a magnetic variation of electroconvulsive therapy, which is used to treat severe depression.
(Not saying this research isn't useful, I don't know enough. Just wondering what if any conclusion, or application.)

i made a medium level mistake at work today, and when i make mistakes it really shakes me up and takes me a long time to recover.
it completely rattles me, makes me feel awful about myself.
my mind keeps going back to the mistake reliving how i could have let it happen.
The articles and talks in the congregation will often give lip-service to imperfection, but in reality it is the most intolerant and judgemental of environments to survive in outside of politics or celebrity.

Oh, I know what you mean Faye, I'm the same, and yes I too have concluded it to be a legacy of being in a doomsday cult. Where one wrong decision could result in a horrible physical everlasting death at armageddon, and being socially dead to all around you now.
They are pretty powerful reasons to be hypervigilant about pretty much every decision you make and obsess over errors.
I have found reminding myself that it's not about the mistake so much because we all make them, there is no such thing as perfection and mistakes are in fact how we learn.
But our attitude to the mistake, for instance making a note to self for next time etc etc then move on.
based on what we've seen, it seems to me that of the seven, splane and jackson are the smartest; herd, lett and morris the least intelligent; and sanderson and losch somewhere in the middle.
.
what's your impression?.
I think the new kid on the block, Mark Sanderson outshines them all in may ways.
If I were to place a wager on which GB member most likely to wake up, I would say Sanderson.

I 'm beginning to think these broadcasts are produced so in the furture they can provide proof to Government or the courts that they do encourage charitable works, and provide disaster relief, and protect children, and don't beg for money, and dignify women.
"See, we do all this super wonderful christiany stuff, our broadcasts say so"
