  My 45 Minute Conversation With JWs Today

  as i was saying before the watchtower literature trolley has arrived in my little town.... my wife and i were in town this afternoon and i saw one of my former elder colleagues standing beside the trolley talking to a young man and reading to him from one of their books.

  ray was one my least favourite people - he was everything that is bad about jw elders.

  i went up to them and interrupted and told the man that this is a cult recruitment campaign.

  Yes a good way to breakdown the cult mindset is to, as you say "appeal to the authentic personality", I think it is a method employed by exit counsellors.

  I just wonder though you said they "knew your name" assuming they were told you are apostate why did they engage with you for so long is'nt the counsel to not talk to apostates? What was their motivation? Will they be "spoken to" by elder Ray when they return?

  I don't doubt your experience in any way I am just confused as to why they would speak to a known apostate for so long about apostate things reasonably or otherwise. Very strange.

  But putting my paranoia about active jw's aside, kudos to you.

  It depends on what you are jealous for, the context.

  For eg, if one woman is jealous of another womans outfit it's totally a compliment.

  W1 " I just love your new outfit, I am soooo jealous, I hate you".

  W2 "Oh thanks, your soooo sweet for saying so".

  See what I mean jealousy can be a good thing.

  i would just like to get this off my chest.. during the public talk last sunday the speaker (bro holden m'groin) said in public talk: .

  " if you ask any 16yr old girl what she wants out of life, she would probably say a home, a family etc etc" (because obviously this is still 1955).. anyway that got my attention i thought " hmm....where is he going with this?"..

  Oh and another thing I remembered another another bro said in a public talk lets call him Bro "I have it on good authority".

  Well Bro says in his talk that "he has it on good authority" (fails to mention authority good or otherwise).

  ."........that you only have to smoke pot once to develop schizophrenia and there is nothing you can do about it because it may not show up for years. In fact everyone who smokes dope goes on to develop mental illness in one form or another..... "blahdy blah blah ininformed crap continues down this vein for some time then we arrive at alcoholics

  " .. I don't know if any of you bro's and sis's know this but there is no helping alcoholics. The only thing that will help alcoholics is armageddon...."

  OMG! There are at least one schizophrenic and two alcoholics in the audience.

  Oh yeah and another thing I had to share with the world (JWNworld)

  I saw a disfellowshipped girl in the supermarket yesterday and I walked right up to her ( had to, she was standing in front of the frozen food section and I wanted a pizza). Anyway I smiled said a friendly hello, nice to see you she looked worried at first but then when she saw I was friendly she visibly relaxed and smiled back an we chatted for a few minutes. I walked out of there feeling so "screw you WT".

  Bro Holden M'Groin goes on

  "let's say you meet the same girl at age 30 and by that time she has three kids to three different fathers is struggling to make ends meet and is depressed with a drug problem and you think to yourself what happened?. But the truth is bro's and sis's nobody intends to become a failure".

  I thought " am I taking crazy pills, did I just hear correctly?"

  I never did figure out what the point was. I switched off again.

  What makes this incredibly insensitive gaff worse is there is a young woman about 30ish with her three kids to yes, three different Daddies sitting front row, centre probably wishing the floor would swallow her whole.

  I doubt whether this guy knew that, but still why would you take the chance of offending someone, what with all the "blended families" there are these days. And what 16yr olds has he been talking to? The 16yr old Mrs Brady, Mrs Cleaver, Mrs flinstone, Julie frigging Andrews before she finds the Von trap family.

  I gotta get outa this place, if it's the last thing I ever do.

  EX JW Podcast

  i am setting up a podcast (radio show) where we will cover the issues of jw's, amongst the topics of science, belief and more.. i am letting you guys know because i would like to interact with the forum as we do them, looking for suggestions for topics, looking for guest ideas and also we can mask voies and change names, so interviewing current jw's to help provide people a voice, an outlet for their frustration whilst providing a safety net.

  there is no hierarchy, but current elders, bethelites etc that contribute here already will be more than welcome and protected!.

  the podcast will be pro science, i will have both atheist and theist co-presenters in the episodes but i can't deny my bias towards evidence and science, but hopefully it should be enjoyable and informative for us all.. i plan for it to be about 2hrs long, maybe an episode a month or every 2 or 3 weeks.

  That sounds like a great idea.

  The trick to introducing science to the uneducated masses (like moi) is to make it fun and or funny, even satirical.

  A segment called "Why is it so?", or "please explain" would be cool.

  I would make it a practice to ask any I worked with in the ministry "if they did'nt become a jw what would they have liked to have been".

  I was so amazed at how every person I asked would get totally absorbed for the next hour or so telling me animatedly how they would have loved to have become a vet or a pilot or ballet dancer or scientist or a chef. They would become more excited about that and forget about the fs.

  It was fascinating to hear what their hopes and dreams would have been.

  Just a pity it was only hypothetical.
