JW's NOT identified by a symbol!!
by The Searcher in*** km 9/74 p. 8 question box ***as jehovahs servants we.....................do not want to give others the impression that the tetragrammaton is the symbol of jehovahs witnesses as a whole.
we have no organizational symbol to identify ourselves but show that we are jehovahs christian witnesses by living in harmony with gods will.john 13:35.. don't you just love those "old" lights?.

Doomsday Clock moved ahead - Watchtower loves this stuff
by Zoos ini remember references to the doomsday clock all the time when i was a kid (in the 80's).
they moved away from it when the nuclear threat diminished.

Yeah, I remember the doomsday clock in the eighties as well.
Funny thing is, the JW doomsday clock has been stuck on one minute to midnight for the last hundred years!

I'm studying with Jehovah's Witnesses!!
by Kulotti79 inhello all... i currently studying the bible teach book and i'm just curious what information does the study conductor record about the student and is it passed on??
and they keep on saying "the truth" which is starting to get on my nerves.

Really don't feel like a JW anymore
by snare&racket init has been a good 8 years away from my area, a good 10 years + since i was regularly at meetings.
a good 12 years since i was hesitantly active.. it is a slow process but it does happen.
i now feel no connection to the belief system beyond memories.

If JWs choose to set up shop in public places they need to be ready for questions. After all they turn up at stranger's doors uninvited and ask (what some would consider to be) very personal questions, just so they can tell the householder how wrong they are. That's rude! -

Thinking about thinking and upbringing
by ballistic ini was thinking about being "brought up in the truth" as opposed to joining.. as a child's brain develops, it builds connections based on what it is taught.
these connections are inseparable from the person in that our thoughts and memories actually become part of our personality (who we are).. a very simple example, might be being taught *not to do something* because it "displeases jehovah".
the understanding of right and wrong is then set in the child's mind and built upon.. there are several points of thought i have about this fact.

I have also given this some thought. I came into the truth, so I do have a point of reference as to what I was before, during and after the truth. I don't know how born-ins answer the question of "who am I ?" How is it possible to know what your natural personality is - minus the childhood indoctrination.? Stuff in life has habit of "regressing to the mean" as in - the average. So there would be an average you there somewhere underneath all the layers of cult-think.
It can take some time and patience for it to emerge but I am confident it is possible to find a new normal.

Insistance on legal contracts
by StarTrekAngel injust asking those who still attend or keep up with the latest magazines.
there was a wt study not too long ago that insisted on studying every pact that god made in the past, but adding the spin of calling them "legal contracts".
this week's book study concentrated on the same thing.

Yeah the covenants, but I was thinking more like anything Jehovah promised or decreed could be considered and referred to as "legally binding" simply because Jehovah said it. But maybe that was my interpretation . I'll try and find an example to illustrate.
