Exclusive Witnesses might be more Appropriate!

i've been thinking of late that really what is the difference between the exclusive witnesses and the exclusive brethren?

) they are controlling, limiting and the only right way as far as religion goes.. in fact the 'truth' slogan was an amazing marketing campaign and really does work for those members.

are you in the truth one would ask?

As a JW you learnt that it wasn't safe to be yourself, it wasn't safe to voice your opinion or share your true feelings.

So you developed your own ways of dealing with that, like defensiveness, deflecting, dishonesty etc etc.

Sounds like your wife is inviting you to be yourself, she's letting you know you're safe with her, she's not the elders.

Being yourself takes practice but it's worth it and it sounds like you have already figured out what you need to do, so just relax and everytime you feel yourself going into WT/cave-man mode take some deeep breaths and say "honey, I feel.......and I think......." and then listen to what she has to say. Maybe even ask her how she deals with the same feelings. Believe me she will thank you for it and it will get easier.

I have heard "worldly" people saying - " they seem so nice at the doors, but you wouldn't believe the way they really are." So I hope more people will speak out about this sort of behavior. Good for you for doing so.

I can't imagine being asked to leave a funeral reception because your presence makes someone uncomfortable- what is this the 1950s!

There are enough skeletons in the JW closet for a decent expose, but it would require many more to band together with one voice and come forward and tell their stories.

I am sure there are plenty of harrowing experiences re suicide, shunning, abuse, domestic violence etc.

I reckon we wouldn't know the half of it.
