The booklet is pretty elaborate with several chapters, headings, and subheadings. It wasn't just thrown together. I believe it could have been used for elder's school.

I've been around for a long time and have seen just about every WT publication--even the hard bound "Paying Attention to the Flock." But today someone showed me a manual I've never seen, "Shepherd the Flock of God." It is 8-1/2" by 11", has a spiral binding, and a plastic cover. It does not give the name of the publisher, and there is no date, but it is obviously published by the Watchtower. It concentrates on effective shepherding visits and subjects for home-shepherding calls. It has 73 pages of instruction from the Organization including "Safeguarding Your Children From Misuse of Blood." I have been lurking on this board for quite awhile and haven't seen anyone mention this book, but it relatively new as it quotes from a 1998 Watchtower. The first article is called "Bruised Sheep" and makes suggestions on what elders can say to abuse victims.
Does anybody know anything about this book?

Field Service Quota?

Re the 15 minute requirement:
After spending several years taking care of my mother, the elders questioned why my field service and meeting attendance had fallen off until I was finally inactive. They didn't seem to understand that taking care of my mother was my first priority. Then they told me and Clyde that we "qualified" for the 15 minute rule. I believe they just needed to get their numbers up. I played the game for two or three months before I stopped reporting again. Clyde never did play the game.

Congregation Servant
Rendezvous for field service (that expression didn't last too long--sounded to clandestine)
Informant - changed to Kingdom Ministry, changed to Our Kingdom Service, changed back to Kingdom Ministry again (I believe it had to do with a question of what the word "minister" really means).
Expression heard at weddings during the 1950's: "Until death do us part OR until the divine termination of the marital arrangement."

The WT versus hobbies
by Bonnie_Clyde insomeone already pointed out the 8-15-04 wt where a couple boxed their hobby items and put them away so they would have more time for spiritual pursuits.
however, when i saw the 8-22-04 awake i told me husband, "looks like it didn't take long to get that box out of the attic.
" on the front of the magazine there is a picture depicting a father and son assembling a model car.

I don't have the article in front of me, but I remember two or three articles about spending time with your children. However, not once does the WT suggest sharing a hobby with your child. The whole thrust of the article(s) was about spending time advancing spiritual interests and as a result many children grow up to be elders or pioneers and what a wonderful blessing!

For several years now, it doesn't matter so much how serious the sin is as much as the "attitude" of the sinner. A person could commit some pretty horrible sins and get away with it if they were "truly repentent." I know a guy who went to the elders because he had had a couple of cigarettes. They asked him if he was sure he would never have another cigarette, and he said he wasn't sure it could never happen again. They quickly disfellowshipped him. Yet, I could name numerous people who have done things far, far worse and they are fine--just as long as they are humble enough when they attend the JC meeting.

Two witness rule! What about 17 witnesses?

The testimony of youths may be considered; it is up to
the elders to determine if the testimony has the ring of
truth. The testimony of unbelievers may also be considered, but
it must be carefully weighed. If there are two or three witnesses to the same kind of
wrongdoing but each one is witness to a separate incident,
their testimony can be considered. Such evidence may be used to establish guilt, but it is
preferable to have two witnesses to the same occurrence
of wrongdoing.Where is that quote? Is it in the "Pay Attention" book?

I believe it was in 1983 or 1984 when the WT came down harder on carrying or using a gun although they had spoken of it negatively a lot in the past. However, an article in the Awake back in 1976 or 1977 said that using a gun was according the individual Christian's conscience. It used the scripture in Exodus 22 (verse 1 or 2?, don't have Bible in front of me). We had a friend who was a sheriff's deputy and back in the early 70's he wrote a letter to the Society about whether he could carry a gun and the reply was that it was OK as it was for peace keeping purposes and not for war. We have a sister now in our congregation who was a police officer until recently, but decided that she would have to quit. She now works as a waitress.

Was There Ever Any Rule That You Thought Was Silly In The Organization?
by minimus inthe rule on having "large gatherings" was stupid.
because some people abused a "christian get-together" that had a lot of people, we could only get together in smaller groups.

I remember the circuit overseer in our circuit would not appoint any brother as a servant unless he wore only white shirts--no pastel. At our next circuit assembly the district overseer was wearing a green shirt. Boy did the news spread quickly, but we didn't hear anything more about white shirts after that.

Selling homes and property - pre-1975
by Bonnie_Clyde ini just had a discussion with a relative who attended the district convention.
he gave me the booklet, "keep on the watch.

I just had a discussion with a relative who attended the district convention. He gave me the booklet, "Keep on the Watch." According to him, the speaker who introduced the booklet talked about the people who were stumbled because of the change in understanding regarding "this generation." He then added, "You know, there were people who actually sold their homes and property thinking the end was actually going to come in 1975. (I assumed that was part of the talk also.) At this point I couldn't stop myself from saying, "Well, the Society encouraged us to sell our homes and property." He looked shocked and said that wasn't possible. I told him it was in the Kingdom Ministry. He said he wouldn't believe it unless he could see it. I told him I could find it, and I have--the May 1974 KM in the insert. I will give it to him this week.
My next question, I think there was a comment in the Watchtower after 1975 criticizing anyone who sold their home thinking the end was coming in 1975. Does anyone know where it is?
I also mentioned that we have a circuit overseer who on two separate visits to our congregation made the remark that the "Society was NOT wrong about 1914 and will NOT be wrong about 1975." That was in the early 1970's. My relative passed that off as only being the words of one man. I asked, "Where do you think he got that idea from--this was not just a local thing. Circuit and district overseers were talking about 1975 all over the country." He went on to say that he only believes what he sees in print. I mentioned the two-week study article back in 1968 about "Why are you looking forward to 1975." He didn't know anything about that.
My next question: If a person should only believe what they see in print, why bother to attend the convention at all? Or for that matter the meetings? Wouldn't reading the Watchtower and other publications be enough? I don't attend meeitngs any more, but I commented that I do a lot of reading. He has admitted that he doesn't read much. Too bad--he could learn so much.
I believe I was wasting my words on this relative, but I had to say something.
