I thought I read on this forum that they were putting the building on hold. Or have they actually started building?

Why is the WTS still building in Brooklyn?
by jwfacts inthe wts is building a huge new construction in brooklyn.
if they are laying off 1200 bethelites what do they do with all the new space.
is all the brooklyn property used for watchtower related things or is some of it leased to others as a realestate investment?

Another stupid blunder by the WTBTS.
by gumby inmany times the wtbts are pretty good at changing poilicy without looking to obvious to the r&f as being sneaky and having a motive behind their changes.
normally they can even justify their change as scriptural to the unwary.
however, when they changed the baptismal questions, it was more obvious that there was "motive" behind the change and some exited the group because of the change.. this thread is for those who have never heard of the change before and were not aware of the current stance the wtbts has taken regarding baptism.

I think the WT changed their baptismal vows in 1985. The 1989 quote must have been a repeat.

An old JW friend that I hear from only occasionally forwarded this e-mail to me. I have no idea why. But I think it is interesting. In fact I remember studying this about 30 years ago.
Page 245, par 9: "This signifies that what marriages of Religion and State, Church and State, have existed till then, will be dissolved. What national or State churches still exist will be disestablished. Tax exemption for religious organizations will be discontinued. Even Bible publishing and distributing societies of Christendom will be suppressed. Missionary work by the churches of Christendom will come to a halt. Army and congressional chaplains will be discharged. The celebration of Easter and Christmas and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) and Passover will be discontinued. The tremendous material wealth of the religious institutions, what may be left of it after the looters take what they want by force, will be expropriated by the political governments in their dire financial straits. For anyone, man or woman, to wear a distinctive religious garb identifying such a one as a member of a religious organization of Christendom, will expose one to assault or arrest as being hostile or a menace to the State. Amazing as it may yet seem to many, Christendom will be gone--forever!"
Only JW's will survive!

"Also, why a $79,000.00 stipend? Have they ever given any injured Bethel worker any such stipend? didn't a guy lose his hand long ago at Bethel and all he got was sent home?" Carla - That guy who lost his hand - was that in the 1960's? Was his name Chuck? Just wondering because I think one of my friends knew him real well.

I think it was Henry Ford II who said, "Don't complain, and don't explain."

That is shocking. We had two morman boys calling on us. Mostly it was Clyde who talked to them, and they even got to the point of having a study because Clyde had a lot of questions. Very nice young men. They invited us a few times to their church but we politely decline. I couldn't stand to go from one high-control religion to another, but there are some things I do like about the Mormans. One is that they value education. One of them is planning to become a dentist.

"We are the only religion on earth that can claim to be unhypocritical."
by Bonnie_Clyde inthose are the exact words of the po's wife today at the wt study.
i wrote them down as she said them.
the next comment by one of the servants was, "if we accept the authority of the faithful and discreet slave, we cannot go wrong.

This woman's PO husband was conducting the WT and nodded after her comment.
I'm ashamed to admit that there was a time that I would have too.

The Divine Termination of the Marital Arrangement - I need an old timer
by Bonnie_Clyde ini talked about this on gophers post about you cannot live forever on paradise earth, but thought i would start a separate one as i need an old timer who can remember attending a witness wedding in the 1950s.
gopher asked
: what happens if the earth (in such a paradise) reaches the point of overpopulation, meaning there are not enough food and other resources available for continued growth?

I talked about this on Gopher’s post about “You cannot live forever on paradise earth,” but thought I would start a separate one as I need an old timer who can remember attending a witness wedding in the 1950’s.
Gopher asked : “What happens if the earth (in such a paradise) reaches the point of overpopulation, meaning there are not enough food and other resources available for continued growth? The Genesis account says that the first humans were told to ‘fill the earth’. What would happen once it is filled?”
I commented : “The question about over population of the earth was asked many years ago. The answer was that eventually procreation would stop when the earth was comfortably filled. I can remember at witness weddings, during the vows the speaker would use the words "forever, or until the divine termination of the marital arrangement." Does anyone else remember?”
Gopher answered : I think the phrase used in JW weddings was ‘… as long as we live together on earth under God’s marital arrangement’. That phrase leaves open a lot of possibilities, including the termination of the marital arrangement, or even the possibility of living together on some other planet (if you think about it).
