I wonder if that 1974 WT article may have been written by Raymond Franz while he was still at headquarters. As far I know, the WT tightened up since then (after 1980).

I've known some kind elders, but I'm not holding onto the WBTS mindset. I think it's going to take more conversations than that to figure out where he stands.

This came from the November 1999 Kingdom Ministry, for the week starting November 29
"20 min: Our Choice—The NewWorldTranslation. Talk and demonstrations. Among religious organizations, ours is unique in that we publish, use, and distribute a translation of the Bible produced by anointed worshipers of Jehovah."
That really makes it special, doesn't it?

My cousin is getting baptised today
by dorayakii inmy aunt sent me a text message last week informing me that my cousin would be getting baptised today.
she's 16 years old.
i kind of didn't know what to say, i knew the day would come when she'd have to take that step, but didn't expect it so soon.

I saw a 1-page ad from Allstate in the Wall Street Journal about why 16 year olds have more accidents than even 17 or 18 year olds. Their brains are not fully formed and cannot understand fully the ramifications of their actions.
I think the same could be applied to 16-year olds (or younger) getting baptized. They have no concept of the ramifications. Clyde says no one should be allowed to be baptized until they are age 21. I say age 30, that's when Jesus was baptized--but then, why get baptized at all?

Will "New Scrolls" be a Release of Old Scrolls?
by cameo-d inwill it be new information found in these old scrolls?.
(personally, i think it's all contrived toward a specific agenda).
but what i am wondering is....is it "new scrolls" just because it's newly released?.

New scrolls? What new scrolls? Revelation just states that scrolls will be opened. They could be old ones.

Did You Feel Better After Confessing Your Sins To The Elders?
by minimus indid you feel "more right" with jehovah?.

I never confessed my sins. I always felt it was between me and Jehovah. Besides, I didn't feel I ever did anything they wouldn't have done.

What is the WTS financial position?
by Roddy ini know this may seen an obvious question but i'm wondering if their downward financial situation is accelerating in the last five years.. we know of the large real estate sell-offs in brooklyn and their large bethel layoffs -- things they never report on in their publications.
pushing more and more of the traveling overseer expenses to the local circuit and congregations.
how they have taken a lot of shortcuts with regards their printing operations.

In our circuit the Regional Building Committee told one of the congregations they were going to have to sell their hall and build a new one. Their hall was beautiful and there was nothing wrong with it, but it was built just before the RBC was formed so maybe it didn't meet their criteria. So the congregation obediently sold their hall, bought new property, then found out the new property was not suitable for building. For at least 3 years now all the witnesses have to drive another 10 miles to a hall in a neighboring city. Their old hall was sold to a local college and they got a real good price for it, but all the money was sent to the WT, and the local witnesses have no Kingdom Hall of their own.
But they did what they were told...I think the phrase is, "strictly obedient."

The WT actually was, temporarily, lenient about using a firearm for protection. Awake! 09-08-75 p. 27: "In his Law to Israel, Jehovah God revealed that the individual had the right of self-defense. For example, regarding a thief who broke into a house at night, the Law stated: 'If a thief should be found in the act of breaking in and he does get struck and die, there is not bloodguilt for him.'" - Ex. 22:2. On page 28 the article goes on to say, "Peter's action...was not a matter of self-defense, but, rather, resistance to authorities and even against God's will....Accordingly, before buying a deadly weapon, one should certainly weigh both aspects--one potential danger against the other potential danger. He must decide which would be the greater risk." They actually gave us a choice....
I thought the article was quite reasonable. Wonder if he it was written by Ray Franz? I've never seen this reasoning before or since.

I'm almost in tears. Just saw in the paper that my opthamologist is dying of cancer. He was one of the nicest men I've ever met. Very well traveled, intelligent, caring, giving and just plain nice.
Well there was a ceremony last Saturday at a local funeral home in his honor. 130 family members and close freinds from all over the country came to participate in this "Celebration of Love and Life." But this is unique...the doctor is still alive. The purpose of the afternoon was to celebrate his life while still living. I wish I could post the whole article, but here are a few excerpts:
"The invitation to the celebration held a written statement from the doctor that said, 'This isn't just about me. It's about all of us. The stories and details might be different but the intentions and love they express would be the same for any one of us.' Accolades, memories, and testimonials flowed freely from both speakers and guests, along with laughter and tears. 'We had scheduled the celebration to go from 1 until 4 p.m., but we had to shorten it by about an hour because he was so tired.'"
The newspaper stated this was the first service of its kind in our area, and the funeral home director isn't even sure that a service like this has ever been done anywhere.

Anyone here ever heard of this?
