I remember that Time article. It bothered me for years, but I kept pushing it aside. A few years later, I read an article in our local newspaper about a couple who had read Ray's C of C and left the Borg--all of their children shunned them. That bothered me too. But it was 16 years before I finally ventured onto the internet and my first search word was "Franz."
Thank you Ray Franz for all you did to open my eyes. Just wish I had listened sooner.

there is another thread that notes a claim on wiki that said that ray has died.. he had a stroke yesterday, and is in the hospital.
he is still alive.
I remember reading Ray's books far into the night back in 1999. I couldn't believe the clarity and the insight of that man, and I've always wanted to meet him. Talked to him on the phone twice, the last time was last September. Yes, we also have much to thank him for and we too pray for him and his wife.

spoke to my jw husband today ( we dont live together), he has the co visit this week..." the end is very close now,we need to stay focused, now is not the time to be missing meetings,co was very positive, a great speaker, i sense myself that the end is just round the corner"......hmmmm i remember a co visit around 1990, i too thought the end was just around the corner, in fact my daughter would not start school lol, her son started school 2years ago.. did i miss something or do i have to wait till my grandsons kids go to school..... loools.
how could i have wasted so many years, is there a syndrome for this ????

The end came in 1975. We just didn't see it because it was invisible.
this happened many years ago in my old congregation.. the man, who held the position of a ministerial servant for many years had not long lost his wife in death.. obviously, tensions and the general heartbreak of what happened to him lasted for sometime.
i remember going to see him once and he was extremely depressed.. however, his son had recently moved back in with him and they had started arguing.
his son grassed on him in to the elders that his father had sworn at him in a number of arguments and he was removed as a ms. the rest is history.
I posted this topic about 4 years ago about Sister M who was disfellowshipped back in the early 60's for preferring the King James over the New World Translation. She was well into her 80's and I just loved her. I was devastated when they read the announcement, but went along with it because I thought it was the right thing to do.

Rose Petal - My great great grandfather worked in the coal mines of England, and that's what drove him to take his family to Canada for a better life--it didn't get better very quickly as the family almost died in a shipwreck. I guess the conditions in the coal mines were just terrible in the 19th century. Don't know what part of England it was, but maybe the north.
How big of a Cookson fan are you? I've read over 30 of her books. I need to know how to send pm's

Never have, but I'd sure love to. Most of my ancestors are from England. Also I've a big fan of the author Catherine Cookson and would like to see the area of northern England that was the focus of her books.
