Why do Jehovah's Witnesses lie to recruits?
by jerome infirst let me say this.. i have constantly been hearing of the legendary honesty/intergity of the jehovah's witness for some time now.
i have also been informed that they are the happiest people on the entire earth.. my problem is this:.
when a jehovah's witness comes to your door and you actually decide to give them a few moments of your time they never give the whole story as to what you would be getting involved with when you join the watchtower.. case in point.

I think one reason they lie to others is that they have been conditioned to lie to themselves without realizing it, what Orwell called "doublethink". They don't realize that they're doing it; they think they are telling you "The Truth" as they were taught it.
"Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do."
I think Tirebiter hit the nail on the head.

Wasn't it 1-16-11 when they read the letter about 30-hour auxilliary pioneers? Wouldn't that letter put extra pressure on the teenagers to get baptized so they could pioneer?

Could ''boredom'' at the Kingdom Hall be one reason why some members leave?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inyou'll find boredom where there is the absence of a good idea earl nightingale quotes (us motivational writer and author, 1921-1989).
let's forget that most members leave due to the wrong beliefs, doctrines and practices of the wts!.
i was bored out of my mind from the repetitive: talks, prayers, ministry school demonstrations, field service talks(peddle magazines),assemblies, special talks and watchtower magazine study articles.

Juan Viejo wrote: "One thing that my Kingdom Hall did during the late 1950s was to hold the Sunday public talk and Watchtower study at the big park in Riverside, CA."
Yes - our congregation also had a meeting in a park. We also had a meeting in a township hall and also a meeting room above a police station. These were in outlying towns close to the edge of our territory, and we would blitz the area with handbills inviting the public to attend.
I remember the CO giving the public talk at one of those meetings. He stopped in the middle of a sentence and ordered the mother of a crying baby to take the baby out. I wonder what kind of impact that made on the public?

I'm going to keep a tally of how many times the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" is honored by name versus how many times Jesus or Jehovah are honored by name.
About 20 years ago Clyde asked me, "How many times is the name Jehovah used in the Bible?" I answered something like 7,000. Then he asked me, "How many times is there a reference to the Faithful and Discreet Slave?" I answered one or two. Then he asked, then why do we hear so much about the FDS in the publications? We hear it almost as much as Jehovah. It made a small dent in my faith - more dents came later.

It was a repeat of a repeat of a repeat.
I remember about ten years ago that Clyde decided to attend the book study that he hadn't been to for several months. They had just finished a study book, and it happened to be the night that they were reviewing the entire book. The conductor had some well-thought out questions, but most of the attendees sat there quiet--it was hard to answer questions on subjects they studied weeks earlier. Clyde just thumbed through the book and ended up answering most of the questions. Everyone was astounded--even myself. I asked him later how he did it--and he said everything is just a "repeat" of everything he ever knew.

He gave the example of the huge project that’s being done in Wallkill. He said that they just showed the Bethel family a 15 minute video about the renovation and new building project that will be done over the next 4 years. He said after the video was shown he overheard a dear old sister who’s been there forever say, “well, I guess that means Armageddon won’t be coming in the next four years.” He said, now I didn’t say anything to her and embarrass her in front of everyone, but I thought to myself, “oh my goodness we approved the showing of that video and I don’t remember that being part of the dialogue.”
So, that night he went back and re-watched it. He said, "Brothers and Sisters - we are going to be in the midst of Kingdom activity when the end comes. We will be building, we will be preaching, we will be planning conventions, building Kingdom Halls……there’s not going to be a pause when the end comes.Luke 17:28: "Likewise, just as it occured in the days of Lot; they were....buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building. 29: But on the day that Lot came out of Sodom it rained fire and sulphur from heaven and destroyed them all."
Could the GB be fulfilling this scripture?

Contribution Boxes At The Book Groups , Did You Donate More There Than The Hall ?
by Hairyhegoat inthis may have been covered a few years back but the thought came to me just how much money the wathtower lost in contributions when they got rid of the book study groups in witnesess homes.
my book group was at my parents house and as it was always full, over 30 drones every tuesday night.
this caused mayhem in the road outside with all the cars double parking etc... the jw's at my group always put loads of wonga into the tin on the welsh dresser!

I went to all the meetings starting in 1956 and my last one was in 2006 (that's 50 years). Never saw or heard of a contribution box at the book study.

Some observations from the KM Elder School I wanted to share with you.
by miseryloveselders inmy school was a couple weeks back, and it was interesting to a degree.
to be honest with you, it reminded me of a police crime scene investigation with yellow tape.
what i mean is, in one respect it was business as usual.

Culpable! I can't believe they used that word. The dictionary defines it as being negligent and blameworthy. He made it sound like any elder who didn't review the qualifications was guilty of a crime.

by yadda yadda 2 inwhy are so many guys getting their arms tattoed?

It's not just the guys. I've seen girls that were covered with tattoos. I don't get it either.
