  Assemblies

  so i was invited to an assembly by my jw teacher .

  i think i will be pretty bored and feel out of place.

  it is a 3 day assembly this summer and the jw said they were to invite everyone (interested).

  On the subject of relationships, do you know that your would be JW husband could beat you every night for what ever stupid reason and you would NOT be allowed to leave and divorce him. He could treat you REALLY really badly and they only way that you could end that marriage is if one of you commits adultery. If you try to run away from him and run to a sister for help she'll call the elders and they'll make you go back to him.

  That isn't always true--at least in our area. My daughter's husband beat her every couple of years. Always apologized and promised never to do it again. Finally she told him if it ever did happen again, that would be the end of their marriage. Well it happened. She called the police, ordered him out of the house, and divorced him. The elders all seemed to understand as they knew his history-- he had been married before and had the same problems.

  She was friends with a few other sisters who had the same situation. It became a waiting game. Who would commit adultery first. My daughter's husband committed adultery, and she was free to remarry.

  Suppose a good friend of yours has asked you to help in preparation for a dinner. Though the food will be served out in the yard, initial help is needed in the kitchen to get the food ready. But once those chores are done, attention will need to be given to the yard -- cutting the grass, setting the tables, etc. Should those who were privileged to work inside the house now feel too important to care for the work on the outside? Would that show a true interest in the needs of the one hosting the gathering? So, too, those receiving changes of assignment appreciate where the help is needed in our day

  Is this a new way of saying, "We're putting you out to pasture?"

  "Do you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?" and "Do you trust in him alone for salvation?"

  That sounds quite a bit like the questions the WT used to ask before 1985. I always felt that my dedication was to Jehovah and his son, Christ Jesus; never thought of it as to the Organization.

  When my daughter was age 14, my husband and I were building a house. My daughter's grades were suffering a little that year, so I asked an elderly pioneer sister in our congregation who was a former school teacher if she had any time to spend with my daughter to help her with her school work. She gladly accepted, and I didn't find out till a few weeks later that she was preparing her for the baptism questions because there was a circuit assembly coming up. I was concerned because I felt my daughter was immature and approached one of the elders to ask him to talk her out of it. He quickly told me I should be happy that she wanted to be baptized, that she could answer all the questions, and was ready. So much for parental authority!

  What can I give in lieu of flowers for my cousin's funeral

  i'd be glad to send flowers, but my cousin's brother who is handling everything owns a huge flower shop so it seems redundant.

  i thought of money but he is quite wealthy.

  i could donate to charity in her name.

  They are not witnesses, but almost all their relatives in my area are. Should be interesting to see how many, if any, will attend especially after that WT article a couple of weeks ago about church functions. Wonder if I will get in hot water.

  4th generation - My children are 5th generation - I have a cousin with grown grandchildren who are 6th generation, and possibly a 7th coiming up. We go back to the turn of the 20th century.

  At This Point, Would You Care If You Are or Were Disfellowshipped???

  at this stage of "coming out" of the "truth", would it faze you if you were disfellowshipped?

  This may be a dumb questions, but how can you say that someone has been DF'd when the announcement made from the platform only says that the person is no longer one of Jehovah's witnesses. I rarely go to meetings any more, but I heard there was a girl that was DF'd in our congregation last Thursday. If the elders would ever counsel me for speaking to her, my answer would be, "I thought you read that she is no longer one of Jehovahs Witnesses. You didn't say anything about being disfellowshipped. I was under the impression that we can speak to people who are not Jehovah's Witnesses."

  Any thoughts?

  as i was reading an article in a 1941 wt about the 15,000 children from ages 5 to 18 sitting in a special section at the assembly in st. louis, i had a sudden flash of memory.

  there was a more recent assembly where they asked the children to sit in a special section because they were directing a talk at the young people.

  more i think of it, it might have when when they were releasing the "young people ask" book, and that was in 1989. if that was the year, my son was age 15. i tried to get him to move to that section and he refused.

  Sounds like there were two assemblies (since 1941) where the kids were asked to move to a special section--1976 and 1989 with the release of the "Youth Getting the Best Our of Life" and "Questions Young People Ask."

  A NEW Flock book has been released, with notes by a Presiding Overseer

  for several years there has been available a pay attention to yourselves and to the flock book in pdf and html format.

  this book has proven to be extremely valuable in exposing the morally questionable activities of the watchtower society.

  now we have a new version that is even more valuable because it contains the hand-written notes of a presiding overseer, some notes as recent as late 2005. these notes are frequently dictated to elders by a circuit overseer or district overseer in order to avoid liability (the wts can deny every giving such instructions).

  I have a copy of that book (1991). The elder who owned this book did not take any notes in the last ten years because of his advanced age. However, I did find a page with "Six expressions that should not be used on forms" sent to Society including "alluding to, or naming, Society's attorneys or mention of Legal Dept or any comments from Society." Also "any comments mentioning anyone except the committee itself as to decision reached (as a possible influence)." "Any comment that might suggest to someone with a critical eye that the committee did not reach its decision on its own but somehow yielded to influence of an outside party." "Any comments indicating that the elders mishandled the case or committed an error in the judicial process."

  I don't remember special seating in 1976, but will ask my other son who was 9 years old that year. Maybe he'll remember.
