  My JW friend just read Crisis of Conscience!!

  i have recently been in fairly regular contact with a long - time jw friend who, despite my da status, decided to put our 25 - year long friendship before the shunning doctrine.

  she has visited me, discreetly of course, several times, and has read on jwd and other sites when she has been here.

  she recently watched some of the child abuse videos on silentlambs, and all she has seen has caused her to doubt the truth of the wts, after 45 years as a baptised jw, with many of those years spent regular pioneering.. it was the local dc a couple of weeks ago, and she only went for half a day, and missed the rest of the sessions, and she hasn't been attending all of the meetings lately either.

  Seems like Ray Franz was about 58 when he was kicked out of Bethel. He had been baptized for 40+ years.

  I was age 56 when I started reading C of C having been baptized since I was 14 and was a fourth generation witness. Clyde was on his way out about a decade or more before I saw that the WT was a fraud. Fortunately, our two sons have also left the "truth" and are very supportive. But I still have a daughter and my father, brother, nieces and nephews, cousins, etc. I have been treated pretty bad by some of them.

  Nobody is DF'd (yet), but I sometimes it would be a relief. My daughter is the main reason for not disassociating although she has treated me the worst of any of them. I just pray that something will open her eyes, but it doesn't seem likely.

  If Noah had built the ark, but hadn't preached, he wouldn't have been saved

  that was just one of the wise comments i heard at today's wt study.

  i'd like to see the proof.. also, "no one was saved by hanging onto the outside of the ark.

  they had to be deep inside.

  Also, "No one was saved by hanging onto the outside of the ark. They had to be deep inside. It's the same today. We have to be deep inside Jehovah's Organization."

  Also, regarding 2 Peter 3:3-7 (para. 15) about ridiculers..."Ridiculers could be anyone who goes against the arrangement of the congregation." "They are not allowed to stay in the congregation." "We must remove those who have devisive influences." There must have been 20 comments on that paragraph.

  But there were absolutely no comments on the one sentence in paragraph 11 about the need to have faith in the ransom sacrifice of God's Son, Jesus Christ. They skipped right over that. Of course, it was only one sentence. The emphasis was on Noah's ark surviving the Flood, the the first born of the Israelites being spared when the angel passed over.

  Comments You Will Not Hear at the 6-25-06 WT Study (Survival)

  who do the sons and daughter-in-laws represent (did they have children before the flood)?.

  what does the ark represent?.

  (2 peter 2:5) the true god gave righteous noah explicit instructions on how to build an ark for the preservation of life through a global flood.

  Just as Noah and his God-fearing family were preserved in the ark, survival of individuals today depends on their faith and their loyal association with the earthly part of Jehovah's universal organization.

  To survive the end of the present wicked system of things, we must do more than believe that it will be destroyed. We must exercise faith, taking full advantage of God's provisions for survival. Of course, we need to exercise faith in the ransom sacrifice of God's Son, Jesus Christ. (John 3:16, 36) However, we do well to remember that only those actually inside Noah's ark survived the Flood.

  I notice that they had to slip in a very short blurb about the need to exercise faith in the ransom of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. But is this the only mention of Jesus in the entire article? I’m not surprised since the Organization has taken on Messianic proportions! They've taken over the job of God's son. Contrast this with this well known verse in the Bible:

  (John 14:6) 6 Jesus said to him: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

  Cyberguy - I was about to post almost exactly the same thoughts. You saved me the trouble. I also noticed that there was only one brief reference to God's Son, Jesus Christ--they had to in case they are criticized for not telling us to put our faith in Jesus. The rest of the article focuses on sticking close to Jehovah's Organization. By the end of the article everyone KNOWS that God's provision for salvation is really the ORGANIZATION. They never use the term "Faithful and Discreet Slave" in this article, though. Just a reference to Matthew 24:45 and the comment that "Jehovah continues to provide us with an abundant supply of timely and healthful spiritual food that keeps us spiritually strong."

  in this la times article, they mention every other 'end time' prophecy group - except jws.

  but i thought jw's were the only ones preaching about jesus and the end ... .

  'end times' religious groups want apocalypse soon.

  I noticed the same thing on the History Channel, I believe the program was "Countdown to Armageddon." They mentioned several groups over the centuries including William Miller and the Adventists. They skipped right over the JWs but mentioned several other religious groups. We were told several years ago that our message should be of peace--not to instill fear in the householders. We really only talk about Armageddon at the meetings.

  i was looking up recipes for the breadmaker when i came across this.as early as 610 ad at a monastery somewhere in southern france or northern italy, monks used scraps of dough and formed them into strips to represent a child's arms folded in prayer.

  the three empty holes represented the christian trinity.

  it has bee said they were used as rewards when the child memorized their prayers right.. .

  Speaking to an Elder tomarrow, I'm almost free!!!!!!!

  major developments in my world, just wanted to let you all know about it.

  i'm meeting with the elder tomarrow afternoon.

  i'm going to stick heavy to the watchtowers interpretation of matthew 24 and how it is unbalanced, sensationalized and out of touch with any historical evidence or respect for the bible.

  So happy for you. Your wife is so special.

  The tragedy of my life is that Clyde figured out the truth about the "truth" over 20 years before I did. I don't know how he stood it. He became totally frustrated and unhappy, depressed, and I couldn't understand why. I thought I was a good wife. When he quit going to meetings, I continued steadfast, doing the best I could to get our three children to all the meetings and in service. The darkest moments came about 12 years ago when I thought he was going to have a breakdown. We came to the very edge of a divorce, but then he was diagnosed with cancer.

  Our life is much happer now, and I'm thankful for that. But I can't help but think of how much we missed out on. I was so bull-headed!

  Several years ago we had a brother who was one of the "anointed", at least he said he was. He was also a pioneer, although he always went out by himself. This fellow had some very strange ideas, so the brothers never gave him a part on the meeting beyond an occasional talk in the ministry school. Once in a great while he would be asked to offer prayer.

  Well this guy had gone on one of the international tours a couple of months earlier. He had asked for a part on the service meeting program to tell about his experiences but did not get his request. So when asked to deliver the prayer, he went into a long, long, long, long story about all the countries that he visited and his experiences at each one of the conventions that he had attended. I know his prayer lasted at least ten minutes.

  I listened to my father's prayer at a mealtime about four years ago. My father proceeded to bring up a statement in his prayer about people who state that Jehovah's name is not in the Greek Scriptures. I know he had to be referring to my husband who had earlier told him that Jehovah's name was not in the original Greek writings. He was trying to counsel my husband through me hoping that I would convey the message.

  One person got baptized at Circuit Ass. today (powerhouse circuit)

  just got a call from a friend who told me only one person got baptized today in a ciruit assembly in nyc.

  this is in a powerhouse circuit that had tremendous growth 10~20 years ago but is now seeing a steady decline to the point that congregations are starting to merge because so many are leaving.

  what could be the cause of this decline?

  Judah Ben Schroeder NOT finishing law school

  a few weeks ago there were a couple of threads about the wts and higher education, and some stated that judah ben schroeder (son of the late governing body member al schroeder) was attending law school at columbia university.

  i got an e-mail from a very reliable source today about some inaccuracies in those threads.
