I wouldn't be surprised if that 1974 article was written by Raymond Franz while he was still in the good graces of the organization. The WT came down much harder on the treatment of DF'd relatives by the early 80's and remains so to this day.

Research question re. Treatment of Disfellowshipped Relatives
by Quarterback ini do remember, but can't seem to find it, a watchtower comment that stated.
" relatives must decide on the emotiional needs of the df'd relatives to see what limited contact would be necessary".
does anyone remember this?.

WT Society Alters their History as " The Party " did in George Orwell's 1984
by flipper infinally my wife and i got around to reading george orwell's " 1984 " .
as many of you know who have read the book that " the party " or " big brother " as the ruling power in the book is called ; constantly changes records of it's past dealings so as to deceive the public about any false forecasts they may have mistakenly made ; in an effort to put forth a positive image of itself it destroys past embarrassing records or paperwork which would expose the " party " as a failure.
much the way the wt society has altered their history to deceive the public and their own members.. notice this quote from george orwell's " 1984 " on pg.

It's a great book! Read it a couple of years ago and the similarities to the Watchtower were amazing. Then I read Orwell's "Animal Farm." The pigs who were in control kept changing the rules that were written on the side of the barn when no one was looking. Just like the WT.

I scanned the article and counted the number of times the article mentioned the elders and the slave. Not much mention of Jehovah and none of Jesus.
Elder(s) 43
Slave 3

WTBTS Approves of Admitted Pedophiles Serving as Elders!
by 00DAD inapparently it's now ok for known child abusers to be recommended as elders as long as the "sin" was years in the past: .
"for example, the sin may involve past child abuse, and this would likely disqualify him for years.
" - shepherd the flock of god, p. 38 (2010).

I have a relative who molested a young child when he was 15 and she was about 5. Years later, after he served some time at Bethel, got married and returned to the congregation, his name kept coming up as a candidate to be an elder every time the CO visited. My (elder) father told me that it shouldn't be a problem because he was married now--(that's when I first heard about it). However, the mother of the victim threatened to go to the press if he was appointed so he's not an elder to this day (he's now in his late 30's) and very involved with the congregation. Too bad the girl's parents didn't go to the police in the first place. Oh, my relative has two kids of his own now.

Since 11/19/2004They had on in Sept of 2001, just days after the 9-11 attacks. Ours was held at Pontiac Michigan.
WHAT A JOKE! They were practically frisking us at the door for recording devices and cameras. It was built up for weeks with special invitations to only certain congregations, elders, etc. We went, we sit, and THERE WAS PRECISELY ZERO 'NEW INFORMATION', which is what they said it would be.
It was interesting though, that the police were on top of the dome with rifles and binoculars, since the entire nation was expecting further terrorist activity. But that was the most memorable part of the whole goddammed thing.
Jeff - we almost went to that assembly! We heard the same story. They also said it was extremely cold in the stadium.

Clyde and I know of a ministerial servant and his wife who regularly go to casinos--it happens to by DIL's parents. Also a friend of Clyde's said he saw a couple of elders at a casino after an assembly. Maybe they just stopped by for coffee.

In a few days I will be posting what the "perfect JW family" life did to one of the children of a family in our area. The funeral was yesterday. Right now I'm just too angry.

Rape can be fornication myth in the 1990s?
by Chemical Emotions inalthough it was wrong for the wtbts to claim this i the '60s, '70s, and '80s, i'm pretty sure (correct me if i'm wrong) that most "experts" believed it too.
idk.. but did most people believe, especially experts -in the 1990s- that if you don't scream or fight when threatend with rape, you have committed fornication?
the wts did.

I'm inclined to think you are right. I remember a documentary on TV (wish I could remember the year, but believe it was early 70's) which dealt with the way rape victims were dealt with in court. It explained why many never took it to court because of the way they were mistreated. In one scenario the victim was asked about the length of her skirt, another was asked about her sexual history, another whether she undressed in her bedroom with the curtains open. The paradigm was often, "nice girls don't let themselves get raped."

Which Generation Are You?
by Bonnie_Clyde inwhich generation are you?
and do you overlap with any or all of them?.
generation y has become the popular nickname for current teens and young adults.. .

The most interesting part of this conversation is everyone's paradigm with respect to the word generation and the wry comments from those who recognise it.
Boomer. The generation that for all intents and purposes is no longer contributing to the world's population (or, at least, shouldn't be).
The article from the "Pew Research Center" states that "As the zeitgeist changes, labels that once seemed spot-on can fall out of fashion. Generational names are works in progress."
Anyway, I found it interesting that none of these generation labels were for more than 20 years, contrary to WT doctrine.

Which “Generation” are you? And do you “overlap” with any or all of them?
Generation Y has become the popular nickname for current teens and young adults.
Millennial Generation refers to those born after 1980, the first generation to come of age in the new millennium.
Generation X covers people born from 1965 through 1980. X-ers are often depicted and described as savvy entrepreneurial owners.
Baby Boomer is drawn from the greet spike in births that began in 1946—following the end of World War II the year before—and ended almost as abruptly in 1964, around the time the birth control pill first went on the market.
Silent Generation describes adults born from 1928 through 1945. Children of the Great Depression and World War II, their “silent” label refers to the conformist and civic instincts that we associate with many of them. (It also makes for a nice contrast with the noisy waves of the anti-establishment boomers.)
Greatest Generation, those born before 1928, is the generation that fought and won World War II, both overseas and on the home front.
