  These stories are heartbreaking, I can't imagine looking back on my life to have been kicked out at such an early age. Although, my life had it's own tragedies. I cannot believe that the advise given by the society was to kick a son or daughter out of the house for whatever reason. At that tender age you need your parents more than ever, you need strong role models, a support system, etc. And until you are 18 (21 in some states), you are your parents responsibility.

  My older sister was told to leave the house by our JW stepfather whom our mother had just married. She was only 17 or 18, she had a two year old daughter at the time and no where to go. She lived with her "street friends" as she called them who treated her better than her own family. My mother to this day regrets agreeing with him and wishes she would have kicked him out instead.

  I said "Eminem" before Barbra Streisand read it out. I knew this song was absolutely the best song of the five. He Deserved It, It wasn't given to him. If you've heard the song you know what I mean.
  
  I haven't seen the movie yet, but of all the songs for the movies nominated, this one definitely seizes the moment of our times.

  I just wonder why the Academy didn't let Eminem perform the song. Or maybe he was on tour and couldn't be there...

  i went to my first peace rally and march tonight.

  it was incredible.

  at one time there were probably 350 of us all joined in solidarity.

  I am beginning to understand now, what my mom always said while I was growing up. She said, "They oughta let the presidents or leaders fight it out" in this case George Bush and Saddam Hussein. "Instead of sending out all of our young soldiers to do their bidding" Put them together in one big bull pen and let them fight it out.

  I know this article link is a long read, but it is very thought provoking.

  I am happy we live in a democracy and not a dictatorship. Although, with how Bush won the election, despite the majority vote for Gore, and this new propagandish language I am beginning to wonder.

  History does have a way of repeating itself. It is going to be a long year and a half to the next election. A lot can happen within that time. It makes me feel sad that I didn't ever vote while I had the right to and will give serious thought to registering for the next election.

  I would like to give Bush the benefit of the doubt, but he is making it very difficult.

  JWs Advertising on TV now

  we were just watching er rerun episodes back to back...after the second episode finished chachasmum and i saw an advertisement for the jws.

  it started out showing a teenage girl on the computer like she was in a chat room...and it was showing her write love notes to someone whom she thought might be a teenage boy...and a voice over said something like...parents protect your children...then it showed an old, fat man with a bottle of beer, sitting back typing on the computer...then all of a sudden it said, "teach your children knowledge, wisdom and thinking ability"...it caught my ear and i looked closer at the bottom of the screen it read: christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses...and gave a 1-800 number.

  looks like they are stealing the mormons' pitch.

  Yes Scooby,

  There was a letter read a while back, referring to them as the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses...

  I am not sure when they first started using this name, but when you call Bethel now they answer the phone as "Jehovah's Witnesses" instead of "Watchtower"

  They must not be doing too well on the magazines...they've gone prime time. Well actually it was 1:30AM in the morning. That's probably the only air space they could get.

  Actually, Chachasmum just had a thought...Maybe they are trying to do damage control because of all of the bad publicity they've gotten over the sex abuse scandals. They have a lot of nerve!!!

  Well Ozzie,

  Growing up with my mother being disfellowshipped was heartbreaking. Because she always loved to arrive like a good JW before the song and prayer. But, she would sit and tell my sister and I to go and talk to the other folks and we would try, but it always felt awkward.

  It wasn't until 1987 when we were living in New Jersey that one older sister (who was studying with me and my sister to re-activate us) told me quite frankly that if my mother and sister (who evidently didn't make it to reactivation) wanted to come to the KH they should sit in the back seats. That is the first time I had ever heard such a thing. Does anyone remember when this rule was made? Anyway, one Sunday morning we all arrived at the packed KH and both my mom and sister sat in the back seat and my neice and I found two seats together up on the front row. I never felt so humiliated in all my life. What a way to break up families...
