tinker,
I honestly give you credit on your job with your kids. But, really it is a yet as to which one of the hard fast rules that will give one of them trouble.

i couldn't believe this list of cannots that jws have to adhere to!
i already knew about the holidays, blood tranfusions, the pledge, etc.
there's maybe one or two that i would agree are for your own good, but the rest are ridiculous!!

it's coming up on three years that i've been borg-free (*humming now to "born free"* -- lol), and while sorting through some papers i found the following, disgustingly self-berating example of how the wt made many of its adherents feel-- lower than worms.
just look at how much i was beating myself up, thinking myself a failure as a mother, christian and wife.
it makes me positively ill now to realize how terribly unhealthy jw-land was for so many of us.
OMG (((((Outnfree))))),
What a twisted turmoil you must have been in...I can't believe these things go on inside us...(for me they still go on because I am trying to decide whether or not to mail in my letter of disassociation).
But this letter you found just shows what enormous guilt is heaped upon the members of the WTBS.
Well I hope you are in a far better place now and are leaving the conflicting emotions behind. It is a wonder our children grow up with any amount of functionality at all considering this.
Thanks for sharing,

happy valentine's day everyone!
i would like to make a special wish to my sister who has a congenital heart defect: and that is to always follow her heart of hearts and she will always know the way to go in life because, she has such a big and good heart it could never lead her astray.
february 14 officially became chda day here in new york a while back to make people more aware of the seriousness of congenital heart defects and i would like to share a picture with all of you.
Thank You for the wishes SixofNine and Outnfree,
Happy Valentines Day to you both too,

LOL Englishman...
Coke and Pepsi (I switch back and forth) are my worst addictions...
I drink close to 32-64 oz a day (3 liters a day)...edited to say: [LOL not 3 liters a day damn...more like 1 to 2 liters a day]
A sister from one of my congs in LA turned me on to this book and diet called FIT FOR LIFE...I couldn't believe the things I read in that book about our water supply and how bad colas and diet colas are for you. Mulan the author agrees with you...cow's milk is for calves...and that the best source of calcium is found in green leafy vegetables...also raw nuts...not roasted or fried in oil (RAW)...
The writer Harvey Diamond suggests only distilled water...after all of the pollution that has entered our water supplies over the centuries the only clean form of water is distilled water...
But as of yesterday I made a commitment to myself to take control of my life and start taking better care of myself...after I got sick from my left over chinese food...LOL
He also recommends drinking a glass of water the first thing in the morning...fruit (which is pure distilled water) only in the mornings before anything else...and suggests drinking a glass of water about a half hour before every meal if you get really thirsty when you eat...because when you drink lots of water with your meals it interferes with your own digestive tract...
thanks englishman for the interesting thread!!!

a few people have asked how jwd came about and what my own story is and while i've posted it in bits and bobs, i've never tried to tell it as a story so here goes .... living in suburbia.
i was born a jw to jw parents who had recently been missionaries / pioneers in ireland and taken literature into countries like spain when it was banned but who were now living in suburbia near to where they had both been brought up.
we lived in a new semi-detached house in a cul-de-sac at the bottom of a hill - fantastic for building go-carts and racing down !
Simon,
Thank you for sharing your story, I enjoyed reading it and look forward to part 2. I am so sorry about your dad and happy that you have reconnected to him. Your childhood sounds adventurous, and you have a great writing style...ought to think about a book? I didn't know you were raised as a JW...you've come a long way BABY!!! damn that elder that lied to you about you and your mom and sisters. (i can relate)
