nathan knorr was president of the society at this time, and fred franz was vice president.

I used the phrase "forced unity" when an elder told me only JWs have love among themselves. Always nice to know others think very similar to me, helps remind me I'm not crazy. thanks for the link.

I suppose so I know I did. however you will never truly lead a fulfilling life if you realize you are not free to express your opinions or openly talk about serious situations in the organization.

It has made me wonder though if the wt changed it's stance on "unity" and the atmosphere that was fostered was one of research and discussions among members, what would be the result? It wont happen but I think it could potentially make for a nice network.

they key to free yourself from the organization is having mental clarity of what is happening in relation to the watchtower, inside and out.

their basic concept is that they are god's sole organization on earth.

there really is no basis for anyone to make that statement.

i am inactive for about 10 years now..

Inactive for almost 6 months or so. I'm happier, healthier, and i have a little more cash in my pocket.

I find it interesting how many people here live productive, peaceful lives, and no doubt have a positive effect in their community. seems to fly in the face of the bitter, angry, prideful, mentally diseased, and rebellious, depection so many of us were taught.

any current or ex jw knows there is a lot of counsel against association with nice people that do not share your faith.

i think this is very damaging for personal growth, we never really can challenge our convictions, we become stunted in ability to reason and make personal decisions.

this is also why the organization has fought against "higher education" so hard.

Im im not a college graduate myself but for most of my life I have always been friends with some staunch athiests and we have had some heated debates, but we have always remained close friends and I know we respect each other. Since I have left the organization I think I am just now starting to see how isolated and controlled witnesses are.

any thoughts on friends that you disagree with religiously, socially, politically?

we are all familiar with the flip-flop on the generation teaching which, in effect, demonstrates watchtower interpretations do not stand the test of time and must be changed.

the words of god suddenly become the opinions of men, time after time.. the teachings and interpretations of pastor c.t.

russell changed often during his lifetime in regards to dates and pyramid speculations.. next, with judge rutherford, the wildest exaggerations of his imagination were proclaimed to be god's own mind revealed to man in the pages of his many books!.

My Experience and how I finally let myself see the truth

first off - for those lurkers who feel guilty just for being on this site and reading this (even if you don't read any further, as it is your right to choose that course) i want you to know that you're not alone in what you're going through or in what you are feeling.

if you read on, i hope my experience may be of some small help to you.. this may be long, but i'll try to organize it in a way that doesn't make it painful to read.

to start, i feel it is most beneficial if i'm upfront and honest with my goals from posting this, which are (in order of the degree to which they motivated me):.

What amazes me joe is how similar your exact situation is to so many here in recent months, myself included. my suggestion would be to take it slow if you can stomach a few meetings here and there for your wife's sake. I made up my mind to completely stop and it has made my marriage harder then it would have been to slowly slow down. My problem was that I could not take the indoctrination classes anymore, there was no benefit to be at the meetings learning a group of men's ideas with no opportunity to have a meaningful discussion.

im sure you have learned already that there are many that have a deep seated hatred for the WT, please remember that many have lost parents, children, relatives, best friends, and an entire network of friends over the course of a lifetime, all in an instant. the feelings of abandonment and isolation are powerful and are damaging, but this is the desired effect of the policy, from the policy makers. Please be patient wih the wide variety of opinions on this board. The open discussion on this board can keep you from feeling alone, there are many in your situation and many that want to help. Good luck in all your endeavors.
