  Did the flood happen?

  so we were talking about noah for our family worship tonight and it ended with a little debate between me and my parents about how the flood was possible.

  you know, where did the water come from, how did all the animals fit, etc.

  of course it led nowhere and my parents came up with some strange theories like that there was "an expanse of water in the sky" and that's where all the water came from.

  The definition of insanity!

  By that definition then, is the society or are witnesses in general insane? After all, they have repeatedly proclaimed dates, or "time periods" for the end to come - that have always proven to be wrong.

  Then, they have denied ever having done so.... yet repeat the very cycle for the next generation (sorry, I mean the same overlapping generation)

  Lying In Wait At a Bed & Breakfast

  a few years ago while traveling in the northeast, my wife and i stopped in new haven, connecticut, at a b&b we'd reserved for the night.

  no sooner had we unpacked and moved into the living room for tea and treats, our hosts began to talk about religion, and we learned they were jehovah's witnesses.

  i didn't mind so much, but my wife was outraged that our hosts would use their place of business as a launching point to do missionary work.

  Any bible that contains the message that God sanctioned the killing of babies, animals and others just because they were born into a "pagan" nation is wrong.

  Any bible that praises or holds up as an example someone like Job who offered his own daughters to be pack raped is wrong

  And any bible that justifies that same man Job committing incest with his own daughters and fathering children with them is wrong!

  Not to mention any book that speaks of a worldwide flood like it was a fact...

  Ideas to discreetly identify the awoken among us

  ok. i know this has been brought up in the past, but i have often wondered who in our halls are awake (for those of us who attend).

  there are some i would consider a 'maybe', but no way of ever really knowing.. so here is my idea.

  A genuinly awake person eventually leaves the cong..... So there is the best way to see who is awake!

  Serioulsy though, DONT assume anyone, even the "weak" ones are awake! Some may seem irregular or inactive, but the FOG (fear obligation and guilt) is strong within them, and they will rat you out if you share anything....

  Yes! As Giles Gray says above, in time (a short time) you will look back on this time and see how much you have progressed.

  I took on the name 'stuckinarut', and yet I am far from that point now! The last two years have been the very best, and now I'm really enjoying a full and genuine life.

  Hey pale emperor.

  Firstly, PLEASE be assured that you are not in this alone. Many, MANY, of us have traveled this path. I say this not to minimise your situation or trivialise your feelings, but rather to assure you that we genuinely empathise and "get it".

  I find it helpful to focus on the things you DO have, rather than the things you may think you are missing.

  What value do you place on knowing the facts about the society?

  How much better do you feel to realise that witnesses indeed fit the very definition of a cult? (Google the identifying signs of a high control cult)

  How much better is life free of FOG (Fear Obligation Guilt)

  And, that life with just a few good friends, is worth far, far more than life with thousands of fake or conditional friends who are so keen to judge you improperly!

  Most importantly, you have a girlfriend who enjoys your company for who YOU are! Enjoy the time with her, and look forward.

  Remember too, The windscreen is bigger than the rear-view mirror! Look forward, don't look backward....

  every time i see photos of new jw parents cuddling up to their new babies.. every time i see people giving the parents new baby cards & gifts.. every time i see them having fun with their children.. i think to myself; 'you would shun your kids' .

  if they don't end up being jw's.

  if they simply publicly declare that they don't believe.
